An article was published in the Landrover Monthly by Lindsey Porter in the tech-tips section , this gave the method of fitting a set of KITEK stainless steel pistons to Landrover front calipers. There are 8 pistons to this set of calipers. They are not difficult to change on any vehicle - the Land and Range Rovers are more complicated than most, since there are 4 pistons in each caliper. So now we have the water in contact with the mild steel piston - what happens with water mild steel and air = rust! The rust lift the chrome as the steel oxidises more it lifts and spreads like a nasty virus under the chrome skin. Eventually the chorme falls away and the rusty pistons are the result.
