The Hearth-place" and Administration Centre of the Sisters are both situated in this historic building, Mount Saint Joseph, in Whanganui. The Josephite Retreat Centre. Facilities are on the same site at the end of the Main building. Mt St Joseph, built in the early 1880's, was formerly the residence of the Peat family. The Sisters purchased it in 1949. Since then it has been used as a training facility, home, administration centre, and conference venue. Business and Finance Manager - Trish Boswell.

Heritage tour 25 August 2013. Following the Parish Mass on Sunday 25th August, two busloads of Sisters from near and far set off on a brief ‘whistle-stop’ tour of some of the significant places for the Whanganui Sisters within the city. That was the next point on the tour as the buses travelled up the Avenue and passed by the site of the first Convent built for the early Sisters. Parish Celebration 25 August 2013. Parish priest Fr Brian Carmine celebrated the Sunday Mass with Bishop Charles Drennan assisting, and both Parishioners and Sisters shared in the various ministries. Parish musicians were joined by Sister musicians, and some of the same hymns used for the Mass of Fusion were sung with energy and joy. Participating in the Presentation of Gifts were representatives from the Parish Schools which all had former links to the Sisters. Welcoming all to Mass, Anne Burke rsj, said.

Our craft outlet specialises in candles and craft sales. All proceeds are used to assist the charitable works of the Sisters of St Joseph. Josophia Craft was set up in 1988 as an outlet for the varying craft works of the Sisters. The proceeds are used to fund projects for the welfare of Women and Families. The name is a combination of the Sistersâ patron Joseph, and the ancient name for wisdom which is sophia. For Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Jubilees, Special Occasions. PH 06 348 4223.

Our story begins in Adelaide, South Australia in the 1860’s. An English priest, Julian Tenison Woods, shared his vision with a young Australian of Scottish descent, Mary Mackillop. Mary Mackillop, taken about 1875. Both Mary and Julian were concerned about the needs of poor and migrant families, particularly in relation to the education of their children.
