Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Saturday, May 11, 2013. Last Sunday evening, Holy Trinity Cathedral located here in Hamilton was filled to standing room only. Where did everyone come from and why had they come? They were all from Bermuda but they weren’t all Anglican. People gathered from all the churches on the Island and they had come to pray. There were a 1000 plus people of all ages and they prayed together for two hours! Please pray for Bermuda.

Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Saturday, June 29, 2013. When is a good time to retire? I respond by saying, “No, that’s not true but I have to be ready for retirement.”. So, how will I know when I am ready? One of the big concerns that I must deal with is affordability. Can I afford financially to retire? Do I own my own house or is my bank still a partner? But it will be in just two years! So what are my plans? How will I spend my retirement time? How am I ca...

Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Saturday, April 27, 2013. I want to share with you the story of the Shepherd’s Psalm. Perhaps it’s a familiar passage to you. If you were brought up in the faith if you went to Sunday school when you were young it may have been one of the first passages in the Bible that you memorized. The sky is blue, the sun is shining, no storms on the horizon! Great days, fantastic days. “All’s well.”. But not every day is like that is it?

Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Saturday, March 30, 2013. Why is Good Friday called, “Good” Friday? Jesus rose from the tomb. The sins of his children have been completely atoned for. We shall rise with Christ. Friday is good because of Sunday. No tragedy, not even death, is so big that it can overshadow the love and grace of God. Saturday, March 16, 2013. Living on an Island. What is it like to live in Bermuda? Well, I always like to tell our visitors that one...

Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Sunday, December 9, 2012. Memories of Christmases’ Past. I suspect that many of my favorite memories of Christmases’ past are similar to yours. We may tell our age but do you remember when? A dollar would buy four gifts; package of razor blades for dad, a comb for mom, package of bobby pins for sister and rubber ball for brother. What about a carol sing throughout your community especially to the local senior’s home? The turkey a...

Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Monday, May 27, 2013. 1) The Island of Bermuda was formed on top of a volcano! One elderly Bermudian told me that we should pray every night that God will keep the lid on it! 2) The Pink Sand that Bermuda is famous for is actually crushed sea shells! 3) After bananas are taken from the tree the tree dies. There is only one harvest per tree following which a new tree will grow at the base of the old one. Subscribe to: Post Comment...

Thoughts from Reverend John, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hamilton, Bermuda. Sunday, September 1, 2013. PUT YOUR HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEAD. Some may be wondering why would we drive an empty truck to Florida. The answer is quite simple! After phoning U-haul we were told that we had a contract to deliver the truck to Florida. If we failed to deliver the truck there would be no reimbursement of payment and in fact we would be charged extra because we had already driven too many miles. Figure that one out! I hear...

Following is a story that I came across which I feel is very suitable for Father's Day. Hope you enjoy it. St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Bermuda. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Today is Ascension Sunday. Today we remember the Ascension of our Lord and the promise to come again in a similar manner. The disciples watched longingly as Jesus ascended into the clouds.
