Rebecca Franks: August 2014
http://beccamusic.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Classical Music • Opera • Books • Film • Art • This and That. Wednesday, 20 August 2014. The thought of the airport bookshop might suggest cheap deals on throwaway page-turners, but I've got flights from Bristol and Belfast to thank for two utterly brilliant books I've recently read. Strange Weather in Tokyo. It's a love story. And a tale of loneliness. It's less quirky than the whimsical title suggests; in fact, its original title was The Briefcase. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Rebecca Franks: Moses in Egypt
http://beccamusic.blogspot.com/2015/01/moses-in-egypt.html
Classical Music • Opera • Books • Film • Art • This and That. Monday, 5 January 2015. Welsh National Opera (WNO) has twice this year staged operas based on the story of Moses. But the rum-ti-tum tonality of Rossini's Moses in Egypt. Couldn't be further removed in musical style from the stern rigour of Schoenberg's twelve-tone Moses and Aron. The 19th-century Italian's score, clearly an influence on Verdi's Nabucco. And influenced by Mozart's Don Giovanni. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

JDCMB is Jessica Duchens Classical Music Blog. Music and writing, with CHOCOLATE AND SILVER, in London, UK. Author and journalist JD writes for The Independent. Saturday, July 11, 2015. Proms are upon us. I've written a vaguely grumpy piece for the Independent about why this year's Proms programme feels just that bit meh. I've only done this because I love the Proms. And I want them to be purrfect. The three new works that will. Be filmed but not. The full TV schedule for the Proms is online here. New mu...
