January 4, 2014. FutureSelf Stories: Post 4. So it’s back to school with a heavy heart for most, I’m sure. Back to the books, the teachers, the uniforms and the god-awful food. Back to being told where to be and when to be there, back to being treated like a kid. Back to the shoe scuffing, duffel dragging monotony of bells, books and boredom. And many others last year alone. What I do want is for them to know – to. I don’t know what will happen with this blog. I know that for some it has been h...I start...

O here we are; the first of the ‘FutureSelf’ posts – short testimonials written by YOU – you who are brave enough to open up and share your personal stories regarding bullying in all forms. Thank you. So much. It takes guts, and I think you’re bloody amazing to do it – to want to help others in this way. I hope that for some if not all it will prove to be a cathartic experience also. 8220;Stand up for someone who is in need.

Monthly Archives: April 2013. April 23, 2013. My daughter is about to turn eight months. She’s teaching me and reminding me of so much. Wanted to thank her her by sharing my favourite observations so far:. 1 It’s okay to simply reach for the things you want. Don’t second guess yourself. 2 It’s okay to discard the things that no longer inspire you. Release it. Let it go. 4 Let your frustrations be known. Don’t hold it in. Things won’t change if you don’t draw attention to them. Darren John Boyd, re-born A...

October 25, 2013. My 14 month old daughter was having a rough day (unforgiving teeth, mostly) which meant that the morning had been spent finding zen within the perma-cry and trying to encourage her to chew on appropriate teething toys rather than random shoes, tv remotes or her own fist. Just thirteen years ago someone was thinking about Izzy Dix in exactly the same way. Feeling some if not all of the same wonder, fear, joy and hope as I’m feeling right now I would imagine. It’s a pretty poem, one that ...

Monthly Archives: January 2012. January 23, 2012. The acrid stench of the homeless man arrived moments before he did. I’d been absent-mindedly shoving my phone back in my pocket when it hit me like a wall of stale piss. I tasted it in the back of my throat and involuntarily stopped breathing for a second as he came into view parting commuters in his wake. I spun around to see him standing right behind me. It is you isn’t it? It’s Johnny. Johnny Briggs. My stomach flopped and began itching inside. 8216;Bu...

November 5, 2013. FutureSelf Stories: Post 2. A breakthrough coming. Find it. Seek it out. You will be amazed. At how empowering your new sense of perspective is when you do. The second thing that starts to form a pattern here is that things do. Get better in time. Sounds like a cliche I know – but it’s here, in black and white. Several examples of people who had a terrible time at school finding out that things really did improve at college and/or university. This too shall pass. You when you’re 1...
