St Andrews Ladies’ Putting Club. Before 1860 the caddies had laid out a small putting area near where Rusacks Hotel now stands. They would play to pass the time while waiting for a bag. When the course was quiet a few young ladies would play. On competition days a tent would be erected and a caterer brought in to provide refreshments. St Andrews Ladies’ Putting Club. The St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club is probably better known to visitors from around the world as The Himalayas. Which is an apt description for this unique facility found in St Andrews, the home of golf. A private club founded in 1867, the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club course is open to the public daily from April to September (and in March and October, weather permitting) with a few closed periods when it is reserved for members’ use.
