Charnwood Ringing Group: Ticks at Hicks!

http://charnwoodringers.blogspot.com/2015/02/ticks-at-hicks.html

Wednesday, 11 February 2015. The long awaited Snipe ringing session at Hicks Lodge was a success. We positioned two lines of nets, one of four and one of three 18m nets. We then walked the field after dark. First out of the net was this Woodcock, a ringing tick for Gemma. Next was a Jack Snipe, an extraction tick for Chris, but a ringing tick for Andy. Two Snipe were also caught, a ringing tick for Chris, completing the hat trick of ticks! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ringing and birding links.

Charnwood Ringing Group: May 2014

http://charnwoodringers.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 14 May 2014. A brief session at the water treatment works scrub resulted in among other things a cracking apparent female Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca. With a full on brood patch and distended stomach, suggesting she is at least an expectant mother so there should be some little Sylvias' to ring soon. Strangely I heard nothing from the male that had been singing here for the last couple of weeks, presumably the father, so where has he gone? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Charnwood Ringing Group: Blackcap returns.

http://charnwoodringers.blogspot.com/2015/04/blackcap-returns.html

Wednesday, 22 April 2015. I only caught one bird this morning at Thornton, but it was an old friend! At first I thought it might be a second summer bird returning from last year. There was some brown in the head. Not obvious in this image , but certainly in the one below. The first and 6th tail feathers were not pointed although I thought they might be more rounded if it was an older bird. All the greater coverts seemed the same. You can see some brown in this image. 22 April 2015 at 12:42. New Species f...

Wednesday, 22 April 2015. New Species for Hicks Lodge! Thought this might be a new species, Swallow Tailed Warbler! Just a Chiff that was regrowing part of its tail. A returning Blackcap was good to catch and indicates that the habitat is attractive to this species. All the greater coverts seemed the same.

Wednesday, 1 January 2014. First bird of 2014. Our group secretary Chris sent us an email last night to request final data for 2013, to give an update on the totals for the year (just over 2,500 birds) and to ask "what will be the first bird for the new year I wonder? First bird for 2013 was a Blue tit on 1st Jan at Grace Dieu". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). First bird of 2014. Ringing and birding links. Gibraltar Point Bird Observatory. Latest Sightings at Stanford Reservoir. Monday, 3 August 2015. July- - - - - -A difficult month. Well what can we say really? The weather during the month has been terrible here at Stanford with what feels like continuous wind varying from strong to very strong. This severally effected both the number of times we were able to get out [11 compared with 14 in 2014] and what nets we could put up/area we ringed thus reducing the catch. 1 Smaller adult numbers. 2 The fact we ringed 360 fewer birds this month.
