It is the second-last major township on the north-west coast of Tasmania with a population of around 450. The most distinctive landmark in Stanley is The Nut, a volcanic plug with steep sides, rising to 143metres. It is possible to walk to the top of The Nut via a steep track however access is more popular via a chairlift.
