Thursday, July 23, 2015. Throwback Thursday: The Living Estate of Master Michael Quinn. Photograph of Michael Quinn in 2007 by Jim Franco. It’s hard to believe that it was eight years ago when I started creating "The Find: The Housing Works Book of Decorating.," which was released in 2009. While it was not a financial success for me, it was a huge payoff in the number of truly amazingly creative people who helped me with my labor of love and the friendships I made that endure to this day. To enjoy - and ...

If you've frequented thrift stores or garage sales, you know that globes of the world could almost make up an entire planetary system by themselves. I am always drawn to them, spinning them around to see which countries still exist and which have changed their names. Inspired me to think about how to transform a vintage globe into a pendant lamp. First, I'd buy a hanging fixture, such as the Hemma cord set at Ikea for $5,. Links to this post.

Thursday, July 30, 2015. Throwback Thursday: More from the Living Estate of Master Michael Quinn. Photograph by Jim Franco for "The Find". Here is another colorful relic from the pages of "The Find" that is being sold in the Living Estate of Michael Quinn in my Etsy. As part of an indoor tailgate party imagining a competition between the Sweets and the Savories, these glass pretties got the evening off to a rousing start. There is something very collegiate about this set," Michael says. In ". Says "Origi...

A beautiful frame is a beautiful frame, sometimes so eye catching that it doesn't need a painting or a photograph between its confines to bring it to life. But how about a paper puffer fish? That's what my friend Marino, a graphics designer and artist who lives in Rijeka, Croatia. Suspended inside these two vintage, golden finds. Now I wouldn't like feeling that way, but he seems quite content. Always Frugal, Always Fabulous. Links to this post.

Some guys still wear a suit and tie if their jobs require it, but most professionals have eased on down with a sports jacket and shirt, either with jeans or slacks, as Haggar. Which has dressed men since 1926, would have it. A few weeks ago I was invited to rummage through the Haggar. Always Frugal, Always Fabulous,. Links to this post.

Thursday, June 25, 2015. Street Views: A Super Stoop. I'm always cheered every year to see Michael Quinn's planted creations tiered on the steps of his Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn stoop. The selection of plants is appealing, but the vessels that hold them deserve extra attention, exceptional for their variety and scale. Note some surprises: a jungle faced container hidden behind the gigantic leaves of an aloe plant and a Tonka Toys dump truck that's hauling a load of sprouting dirt. Links to this post.

Thursday, May 29, 2014. Throwback Thursday: The Day Dolly Touched Me! Anyone who knows me also knows that I love Dolly Parton. I have been a fan since childhood, and while I've only met her once, I feel like she is one of my most trusted friends who never fails to inspire and entertain. So to celebrate her newest recording Blue Smoke. Here's a photo of Dolly and me taken almost 12 years ago on the release of her Halos and Horns CD. As soon as my CDs were signed, I was whisked away into the crowd and coul...
