Slowly on our way somewhere. Monday, December 15, 2014. He held my hand tightly when I swam in the ocean for the very first time. Took me diving, taught me to fish and how to navigate. s/v Starship: May 2011

http://starshiphi.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Slowly on our way somewhere. Thursday, May 5, 2011. High and Dry in the Jungle. Three months in Grenada and now it is time to head to the boat yard to put our floating house up and away for an extended visit home. Don and I are excited to make the cross-country drive to see family and friends (my first! But sad to be leaving the Starship, our oasis on the sea. Hauling out is always stressful and the Captain had a moment or two of rapid heartbeat. Now we are jacked up and tucked into our appointed slot am...

Slowly on our way somewhere. Sunday, March 13, 2011. Seven Sisters and Grenada Organic Chocolate. In an effort to visit the rest of the island before Jim’s departure north, we decided to brave the act of driving on the left and take a tour of the island. Is not only known for its spices but also as a leader in ecotourism. One sixth of its landmass is set aside as national park with tropical rainforest, numerous waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries, and excellent wreck diving. The estate is still owned privat...

s/v Starship: The City of Carti

http://starshiphi.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-city-of-carti.html

Slowly on our way somewhere. Monday, July 2, 2012. The City of Carti. Unfortunately it is time for our guests to return to the land of plenty and the Starship headed for the Carti Island group. For their return trip John and Karen elected to take the steep and winding Carti road back to Panama City rather than a plane and we have heard it is much easier than in years past although still by 4-wheel drive and at least a three hour trip. Slowly on our way somewhere. Saturday, May 19, 2012. Daniel is from Argentina and an avid hunter gatherer. After a few days of sitting around and watching the wind blow he and Mike trolled in the dingy and brought us some fresh snapper and small barracuda to snack on. Aruba is known as the Las Vegas of the Caribbean, complete with cruise ships, casinos, health spas and high end resorts with corresponding high end prices. So we will wait and do what the sign says.Chill! I wonder how much a couch costs?

The Lough Life: Random Food

http://loughlife.blogspot.com/2013/03/random-food.html

Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Since the New Year my life has taken a turn not just for the better but for the much, much better. You'll have to see the next post to understand what I am talking about. What is going on is 2 people who love to play in the kitchen having fun. Deviled eggs the new man made, yummy. Broiled salmon with a honey mustard-maple syrup glaze, roasted green beans and yellow rice. Pork fried rice. What a great way to use leftover pork and veggies. No wonder I have put on a few pounds.

The Lough Life: A New Volume

http://loughlife.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-new-volume.html

Tuesday, March 19, 2013. When some people start something new in their life, they say they have started a new chapter. Well, not me, nope, I am starting a whole new volume that will hopefully have many, many chapters to to it. I did not take any pictures of Friday of us, our awesome meal or anything. Just a bit tired after working and then driving about 5 1/2 hours. Mike was enjoying the warmer temps and sunshine as we walked around the square. Saturday for dinner we decided to go back to Capozzi's where...

Friday, January 11, 2013. I Don't Need No Stinkin' Man! Before I go any further on this post I wanted to share a photo of my girls. Kele has now figured out why Lili likes to sleep on the sofa all the time. Well the time came for me to get the Christmas tree out of the house. I called a friend, I sent him a text, I left him a voice mail. When I got tired of waiting to hear from him I took matters into my own hands. Here it is 11:21 and the tree, all 8 feet of it, is ready to go outside. Here is William p...

The Lough Life: Chapter 1, We Get to Know Each Other

http://loughlife.blogspot.com/2013/04/cahpter-1-we-get-to-know-each-other.html

Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Chapter 1, We Get to Know Each Other. This post is a prequel to Volume 2 of our heroine's life. Back in October of last year she spent a few days, ,not many mind you, thinking about what she had been through with the last man in her life and decided that she was too damn good of a woman to be alone and there had to be someone out there that was just right for her. Our heroine got a "Like" for one of her photos. Woofie4U2 was interested. Our heroine looked at his photo and...The m...

The Lough Life: September 2012

http://loughlife.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 16, 2012. It is Sunday in the mountains. The weather is overcast and there is rain in the forecast. The football games that our heroine can get on her cable TV suck. To help calm her boredom she runs on her treadmill, finds an Indian Jones movie on TV and heads into the kitchen. She starts out by making a pumpkin roll for the office. She makes the cake and sets it to cool while she gets the filling ready. In no time at all she has the pumpkin roll ready to go into the refrigerator.

The Lough Life: June 2012

http://loughlife.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 11, 2012. I'm Making Progress,. I have been working diligently to get all the wood split into firewood pieces so I can move on to easier stuff. By Saturday lunchtime I had finished the pile of wood behind the woodshed and Jared had stacked it all for me. Even the woodshed is now full. After lunch I headed out to start on the pile in the driveway near the garage,. By the time I quit I had made some great progress. With some help from the boys I can get this knocked off pretty quickly.

Slow-Mocean: 12/6/09 - 12/13/09

http://slow-mocean.blogspot.com/2009_12_06_archive.html

Sunday, December 6, 2009. We have been absent from the net as of late because we have been without it completely. It was simply not available. Can you remember a time when the net was not there and we actually put letters in envelopes and trusted our government to deliver them for us? The last and most problematic issue we had to deal with was the bugs. We saw some amazing plant life in the river. The morichee palms and mango trees lined the river as did all manner of vine and bush which produced orc...

Slow-Mocean: 11/28/10 - 12/5/10

http://slow-mocean.blogspot.com/2010_11_28_archive.html

Sunday, November 28, 2010. Well it's been a long and eventful summer. Not much to do with cruising unfortunately but were back now. We arrived back in Curacao to find the boat in great condition. After the formalities were finished we anchored at the end of the runway in Oranjestad. Once our hook was down our work paid off. A guy came up to the boat and yelled, “Hello Seattle”! Nice He was from Portland, OR and before you know it we were invited to Thanksgiving dinner the next day with all the trimmings.

Sunday, February 14, 2010. Carnival here in Bonaire is a very different animal than what we have seen before. It is a very family oriented event compared to the last couple we have attended. No really loud sound trucks with skads of loosley clothed ladies hanging out of every opening. No chest pounding Soca. No whining or stab dancing either. It kind of reminds me of a local town parade and that is what this place is anyway. Bonaire the island consists of about 15,000 locals and about 10,000 tourists.

starshiphedgehog | Occasionally my brain spurts out ideas and this is where I put them

Occasionally my brain spurts out ideas and this is where I put them. Baboons, Pot-Holes and Load Shedding. Nothing says ‘welcome to South Africa’ quite like a baboon home invasion or pot-holes big enough to hide an elephant in. As usual, I miss the complete disregard for health and safety- seeing 4 children playing Barbie in the back of a moving pickup truck is a sight that never fails to make me smile. The kind of danger I. Appreciate, however, is being tormented by a giant monkey IN MY OWN HOME. Yes, t...
