starting.OHver: April 2010
http://startingohver.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Finding joy in new beginnings. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Tonight as I was wandering around the apartment trying to get ready for bed, a cool breeze blew in from one of the many open windows, and I remembered how much I love these nights. These are the nights where you take perfectly long walks, sit in hammocks and share embarrassing stories, lay on the cool green grass and confess your darkest secrets to your closest friends. These are the nights I was made for. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
starting.OHver: December 2009
http://startingohver.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Finding joy in new beginnings. Friday, December 25, 2009. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. When it comes to picking favorites—food, movies, books, music—I am horrible; I simply cannot decide. There are far too many things that I enjoy to narrow the list down to one, favorite, beloved thing. This is not the case with Christmas carols. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel is my favorite Christmas carol. Something about it catches my ear and speaks to my heart. Why do I believe it is important? Tuesday, December 8, 2009.

Finding joy in new beginnings. Saturday, October 24, 2009. Several weeks ago I was struck by something Oswald Chambers wrote in his devotional “My Utmost for His Highest.” For several days he discussed the mountaintop experience versus the experience of the valley. His words resonated with my own personal experience and instead of trying to paraphrase what he so clearly expressed, I’ve decided to post the excerpts here. The Place of Exaltation. We are inclined to think that everything that happens is to ...

Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure: May 2010
http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Monday, May 31, 2010. So what’s been up? Well, since my last update about my funds, I am indeed over goal: $7,828.00 in total as of Thursday the 29. Thank you all so much. Also, since my last update I’ve had a lot of new projects and experiences. I went with the other YAVs on our last retreat to Iona, a small island off the west coast of Scotland. Part of the Inner Hebrides, and home to the ‘iona community’. For justice, peace and the integrity of creation. Jan sai...

http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Saturday, November 21, 2009. Question: What happens when a group of young adults all raised in the PC(USA) find themselves in a club in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and The Proclaimers’ “500 Miles” suddenly begins to blare from the speakers? Answer: They jump up from their seats, make an empty spot on the not-quite-a-dance floor, and proudly start doing the accompanying energizer! I can tell you, it’s way. Monday, November 9, 2009. http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Sunday, December 27, 2009. People have asked me how celebrating Christmas in my new home in Belfast is different from the celebrations back home State-side. Here's a short list of some of my favorite new traditions. I'm sure stories will follow, but for now I hope you enjoy! Mini-shrimp (yes, I know that’s redundant) drenched in a mayonnaise-based curry sauce and served on a bed of iceburg lettuce. Sounds kinda weird, but it’s actually quite good. This one actually...

Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Thursday, September 24, 2009. Alright, so it’s been almost a month (already! Since I arrived in Belfast. Time for an update! It’s funny the things I notice about being here, too. For example, I finally figured out what it was about the skyline that seemed so different: very few overhead wires. Instead of having electric poles every several dozen feet like is typical in the States, each block of row houses will. Just wait until winter! September 24, 2009 at 10:22 PM.

http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2010/07/twenty-four-days-out.html
Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Friday, July 2, 2010. At the beginning of this year, I wrote a blog post entitled ‘Twenty-Four Days In…’. Which was written about the recently-acquitted murders. In Derry/Londonderry, and actually pretty artfully describes the whole of the Northern Irish conflict. In the meantime, thank Andy. For inspiring listening music and enjoy some U2 while you read. Getting some bar-b-que from the Firehouse. My friend Vince has been living and working this past year at a camp.

From there it goes as follows; nothing profound or new or exciting, just the everyday, simple. 1030am-1.30pm: Work at Newington Day Centre, the pensioners’ centre in Holy Family Parish, to serve tea and toast, and then lunch (aka, dinner.). http://serviceandadventure.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Wednesday, March 24, 2010. After nearly seven months on the Emerald Isle, working and living in what was once one of the most volatile and violent places on Earth, there is a recurring question that keeps popping up from back home: ‘Why is so much animosity still present in Northern Ireland? With as far as they’ve come, why is there still so much hatred? Was flown, worn, paraded, painted and displayed by nearly everyone. But even St. George’s Cross. It doesn’...

Lynnea's Year of Service and Adventure. Thursday, July 22, 2010. On opposite banks of the River Boyne on July 1, 1690. (When the calendar changed from the ‘old style’ Julian to the ‘new style’ Gregorian, the date moved to the 12. William’s victory was a decisive turning point in James’ overall unsuccessful attempt to regain the British crown, and helped to seal Protestant supremacy in Ireland. His success is still celebrated by the Orange Order. If this is all the information you want, keep reading.).

Finding joy in new beginnings. Sunday, August 1, 2010. 8220;How could this happen? 8220;Why is he doing this to me? 8220;What have I done to deserve this? 8220;Why would a merciful, loving God do this? Once we get over the initial temper tantrum, we mope. We drag our feet and mourn whatever we feel we have unfairly lost. We daydream about how things could have been and ignore everything else around us. We become so focused on what we lost that we miss what we have gained. Why am I not getting what I want?
