Tuesday, April 22, 2008. We were told that it is great to take a ferry from Köln down to Mainz and enjoy the sights from the boat. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant in middle of the Old Town. Going in I thought we were going to pay an arm and a leg for our meals, but it was actually very affordable. And the food was great. Saturday, July 12, 2008. Last night I took a well-deserved break from studying and went to one of the biggest summer events in Cologne: Köln Lichter. It is a fireworks show on the Rhein river that draws roughly a million visitors each summer. The fireworks are launched from a barge between Deutzer Brücke (bridge) and another bridge that leads to the central station and the Dom. Monday, June 30, 2008. Surfing USA - well no, in Munich. For those of you who have not been to Munich, there is a crazy spot not far from the city center, just inside the English Gardens. The river that runs through here (Isar) creates a nice wake just in front of a bridge. Some people take the opportunity to surf. It is a sight worth seeing. Tuesday, November 25, 2008. An Easy Go Live. On my second go-live things were much better. We still had a lot of unresolved issues but for most of the team we never noticed because the client kept everyone busy upgrading the new system! We went live on time and with very few issues. In fact the support team that was not actively training users was somewhat bored. Within two weeks of going live the client was discussing issue that most clients don’t worry about for a year. After sending out what I can only imagine as thousands of resumes and applying on line to hundreds of companies RG started working again! 13 hours a day from when she left her apartment to when she could get home. Hour and ½ subway rides each way plus 10 hour days. Now she has only a 12 minute drive. She can come home for lunch if she wanted. Wednesday, August 12, 2009.
