Advent 2 | a full plate
https://karenish.wordpress.com/2014/12/11/advent-2
December 11, 2014. Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; 2 Peter 3:14. As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,'” Mark 1:2-3. Following the readings that patience in this context may not mean simply sitting quietly and waiting. In this way, patience is...

Friday Faves | a full plate

October 10, 2014. October 10, 2014. It’s no secret I have an obsession with serving dishes and cookware. We host parties and game nights at least once a month, and sometimes more often, and I’m always looking for more plates and bowls to serve snacks in. But I don’t just use these fun pieces for parties. Nope. Most of them also get daily use for my own snacks, or storage for fruits and veggies. Which isn’t a place I visit very often. But every time I do, I find something I love. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Advent 1 | a full plate
https://karenish.wordpress.com/2014/11/30/advent-1
November 30, 2014. 8220;And what I say to you I say to all: Keep awake.” Mark 13:37. I am not a church-going person, unless you count sitting outside watching the birds as church. (I do. I call it the Church of Outside.) And so it’s always a bit of a surprise to them to learn that I do practice certain religious rituals. Primarily, I like to observe Lent and Advent. At least, I do so in my own way. I find it comforting. Like going home, in a way. Home within myself. Which ends with the quote I have above.

Depression – a weird energy sucking flu. January 6, 2016. Earlier today I went on a bit of a sharing spree on Twitter. Instead of retyping it all here I’m just going to link the tweets. I’ll probably be talking a bit more about my depression and the improvements I’m noticing over the next couple of weeks, as well as about other, exciting, things. A friend on G shared this fantastic article about What to do When You’re Depressed, and it’s so spot on: https:/ t.co/htuDnElK0B. But then, even powering throug...

A little light reading. March 24, 2015. I see bloggers sharing photos of stacks of books. I’m not sure what the purpose is besides showing everyone what they’re reading in a quick image. So, here’s my current stack. Oh, who am I kidding? This is only one of what could easily be considered many stacks. You’ll probably notice that five out of the seven books shown here are library books, and two are even from other libraries and came to be by way of the miracle inter-library loan. Letters of a Homesteader.

Monday Musings – Coming Home | a full plate
https://karenish.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/monday-musings-coming-home
Monday Musings – Coming Home. December 1, 2014. I love synchronicity. It always feels like it’s a kind of reminder that whatever I’m doing is the right thing. I lit my candle and sat down and began thinking about the word “coming” and all its meanings and relevance to Advent and to my own life. The list I came up with:. Coming to a conclusion or decision. Come to Jesus (meaning to be forced to understand something). Coming out (of the closet as well as the darkness). Coming in from the cold. The interest...

Mugging for the camera | a full plate
https://karenish.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/mugging-for-the-camera
Mugging for the camera. March 31, 2012. I have an obsession that is difficult to explain. I can’t stop shopping for and buying mugs. Specifically, old, used mugs. Just a sample of all the mugs I've bought. But not just any old mugs. Funky, pretty, weird all work. Whenever I go to a thrift store of garage sale, I am drawn to the mugs and I wind up taking at least one home. A little pretty to brighten up my day. For my homemade face wash and deodorant. I love this one. So pretty! So colorful and fun! I act...

March 23, 2015. March 23, 2015. A blogger’s happy meal. This is a picture of today’s lunch. It’s not that much different from the lunch I have most days. It’s pretty perfect in that it satisfies my cravings for something sweet and something salty, something crunchy and something smooth. But there’s also the sheer simplicity of it that satisfies my craving for something simple and uncomplicated, while also being visually satisfying. Is this going to sound stupid?
