Horse Riding Journals: June 2005
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Saturday, June 25, 2005. Today I got to ride Wild Thing. She's actually very sweet. and a LOT smaller than Kaibab or Gretsky. But there was a catch. That's a bareback pad and a halter instead of a saddle and bridle. Um. I know I said she was smaller, but how' m I supposed to get up? And finally, a shot of the mountains in the background. It really is lovely there. Posted by Tam @ 8:49 AM. Posted by Tam @ 7:3...

Horse Riding Journals: July 2005
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Saturday, July 30, 2005. Lots of pictures from this week, I'm not going to post them all here, so see them here instead. Gretsky is very curious about what is going on around him. It's a little hard to keep his attention, as he'll see a couple walking their dog down in the river bed, or Pia in a tree, or someone taking pictures, or a bird, and forget to listen to the person on his back. Speaking of trot, Gre...

Horse Riding Journals: September 2005
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Saturday, September 24, 2005. Even after that, we were trying to keep to a circle around Anna, but Domino didn't seem to like my idea of circling. When I was able to concentrate only on keeping him on the circle, it wasn't too bad. But when I was trying to concentrate on my position, or sit the trot, suddenly we were doing weird shapes with right angles into the fence. Posted by Tam @ 3:59 PM. Next week we'r...

Horse Riding Journals: May 2005
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Tuesday, May 31, 2005. At the end of my lesson, the instructor, Anna, asked me what I thought. I told her I wasn't sure if I was just really out of practice, or if Kaibab's trot was really very bouncy. She replied, "Yes, both." At least I'll be able to work on the practice part. There's trot. Well, obviously staying on without a death grip on that strap needs to be worked on. I'm not sure what Anna h...I don...

Horse Riding Journals: May 2008
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Friday, May 09, 2008. I am still riding most weekends. Hawk was sold (to a 10 year old girl who also rides there). He's still there, I just don't get to ride him anymore. Instead, I've been riding Night, a 20 year old Arab mare. She's a sweetie. Horse Riding Journals: August 2005
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Saturday, August 27, 2005. Ikarus, or Mikey as Anna called him, was sick today, leaving Anna a horse short. So no trail ride for me. Gretsky. Had been promised to the other lady, the father and daughter were going to take turns on Wild Thing. Is in Alabama for the year, which left me with Domino. Next week I'm out of town, but after that we should be returning to a weekly schedule. Posted by Tam @ 8:57 AM.

My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Friday, November 04, 2005. No More Riding Till December. Last lesson (almost two weeks ago now), I got to ride Gretsky again, and canter! We had some issues keeping going, and I have some issues keeping a good seat when the trot got faster. But I did get to canter, and it was lots of fun. Posted by Tam @ 3:11 PM. United States Eventing Association. United States Equestrian Federation. Oakley the Wonder Pony.

Horse Riding Journals: October 2005
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Saturday, October 15, 2005. The dogs need to be leashed now. Poor Pia. at least she found a good place to dig. Today I got to ride Gretsky again. But no canter. The morning was actually quite cool, I was even wearing a little jacket to start! Once I could actually get the halt, we moved on to asking him to stop, and when he started to, asking him to go again (which is a half halt? Posted by Tam @ 10:53 AM.

Horse Riding Journals: July 2007
http://ridingjournals.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
My online journal as I attempt to start horseback riding again, after 12 years out of the saddle. Sunday, July 22, 2007. This morning I rode Hawk again. Given that there is some hope that at some point I may be interested in half leasing him (and that he's the largest of the horses available for non-advanced riders), I think it's safe to say that I will always be riding him unless he's off at a show or otherwise unavailable. I've been trying to organize my Flickr. And all my riding lesson photos are here.
