Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Saturday, April 25, 2015. Caddis on the Ark. Decided to go find some hatching caddis on the Ark this weekend. I've been hearing a lot about how good the fishing has been so I decided to go check it out for myself. I headed up early Sat morning and started fishing about ten miles downstream from Cotapaxi. As soon as I stepped out of the jeep I saw caddis flying around. Good sign! Love this fly. Easy to tie, durable, and catches fish. Always fun hitting the Ark this time of yea...

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal: Fun Weekend at the East Portal
http://jamiesfishingjournal.blogspot.com/2015/05/fun-weekend-at-east-portal.html
Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Fun Weekend at the East Portal. Mike, Ben, and I had an awesome two and a half days on the Gunnison last weekend. We finally planned a camping trip with Mike who has a pop-up camper. Talk about camping in style. Can sleep six, has a heater, fridge, stove, lights. We must be living right! Still took a day for me to figure out that I could put my waders on in the camper instead of doing a balancing act on my raincoat though. We started off at the spillway ...

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal: March 2015
http://jamiesfishingjournal.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Friday, March 20, 2015. Back To Landon School on the Dream. Ben and I have been so impressed on our previous. With Landon on the Dream Stream that we now have a standing spring and fall trip. Our spring trip this year happened at the end of March and it was an absolute blast. I recently picked up " 101 Trout Tips. We were positioned in a deep bend run and it seemed like the fish knew they were going to settle in and were in a hurry to eat before the sun burned off all of thei...

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal: August 2014

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Saturday, August 9, 2014. Wildcat Canyon Zen Fish. Mike shooting some line. It's been almost a year since I've been back to Wildcat Canyon. It's such a beautiful canyon and from what I can tell it does not receive a lot of fishing pressure. It's a bit of a hike (3 miles) to get back to public water but it's an easy hike (easier on the way in) and it's a very peaceful walk in early in the morning. Doesn't cost you anything and it could score you a fish. It was a fleeting feeli...

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal: December 2014
http://jamiesfishingjournal.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Sunday, December 21, 2014. FFO Practice Round 3. Made it down to Pueblo with Marty to check out another beat or two for the upcoming tourney. We decided to park at Osprey and walk down to the carp hole and then work our way back. We got just below Valco Bridge a few bends and saw several people already fishing that run. The main pattern I've seen over the past three trips is that black midges get bit hard early and then taper off around 11. Haven't found a consistent afte...

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Colorado Fly Fishing Guide Academy! A while back I ran into Jon Easdon while picking up some goodies in the Covey and he let me know of a Guide School that the Covey was organizing. He asked if I would be interested and it was a no brainer. Absolutely! Becoming a Colorado Fly Fishing Guide, especially for Angler's Covey. Twenty some odd years later and this dream is very close to becoming a reality! What did I learn? I have GOT to FISH! We hit Pueblo and...

Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal: January 2015
http://jamiesfishingjournal.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Jamie's Fly Fishing Journal. Saturday, January 24, 2015. Cold Start Hot Finish on the Dream Stream. Not quite the coldest we've ever fished the Dream Stream but at two degrees above zero, it was cold enough. Not as cold as last March though when we showed up and it was eighteen below. Either way fishing was pretty much impossible until it warmed up a bit. Water looked great and we started hooking up pretty regularly as the temperature rose. I wouldn't say. Competition. We were each hooking up pretty ...
