Over the years, I have had the privilege and pleasure of meeting and serving many wonderful people. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. Your thoughtful endorsements are sincerely appreciated. It’s hard to believe you sold our home for us, as planned with multiple offers, in just 11 short days. And that you did so in a rainy, dull, January is even more remarkable. I will recap what happened just to make sure I’m not dreaming. John Goldsmith - reference letter. If yo...

Vancouver Senior Health: January 2013

January 01, 2013. Three New Ways of Stealing. Three examples of things to be wary of in 2013! A friend went to the local gym and placed his belongings in the locker. After the workout and a shower, he came out, saw the locker open, and thought to himself, 'Funny, I thought I locked the locker’. He dressed and just flipped the wallet to make sure all was in order. Everything looked okay - all cards were in place . A few weeks later his bill came - a whooping bill of $14,000! A man at a local restaurant pa...

Vancouver Senior Health: SUMMER’S HERE AND WE ALL NEED TO PAY ATTENTION AND STAY HYDRATED
http://vancouverseniorhealth.blogspot.com/2014/07/summers-here-and-we-all-need-to-pay.html
July 13, 2014. SUMMER’S HERE AND WE ALL NEED TO PAY ATTENTION AND STAY HYDRATED. The weatherman says the temperatures are going to get into the 30’s this week so we all need to drink plenty of fluids so we don’t get dehydrated. The Lower Mainland is blessed with gorgeous sunny days this month, but as the temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius, we can easily become dehydrated. For many people, especially seniors, hot weather can be very dangerous and even deadly. Water is the best fluid replacer. Drink...

July 29, 2013. NEVER LEAVE PETS UNATTENDED IN YOUR VEHICLE IN WARM WEATHER! Every year dogs suffer and die when their guardians make the mistake of leaving them in a parked car, even ‘ just for a minute’. On a 25° C (78° F) day, the temperature inside a parked car can soar to 38-48° C (100-120° F) degrees in just 5 minutes, and on a 30° C (90° F) degree day, the interior temperature can reach as high as 70° C (160° F) degrees in less than 10 minutes. Parked Cars Are Deathtraps for Dogs! Links to this post.

September 14, 2012. MENTAL ILLNESS — Part II. There are so many stereotypes and myths in society today relating to mental illness and the people that suffer from it, so we have decide to do a three part feature on mental illness in our blog. Part I (below this blog) provided a brief introduction to Mental Illness and review Anxiety and Mood disorders. Part II will review Personality Disorders, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder. Misdiagnosis of this illness is common in both adolescen...

June 30, 2013. Avoid Dehydration in the hot weather. Let’s all drink plenty of water this weekend so we don’t get dehydrated. Studies show senior citizens may not drink sufficient fluids. They also may be taking medications, such as diuretics for high blood pressure, which cause additional fluid loss. A recent study of healthy retirees found 8% had moderate dehydration and 33% had chronic, mild dehydration. Here’s a few pointers to stay safe in this unusually warm weather. Cooling showers and baths can h...

Vancouver Senior Health: April 2014

April 06, 2014. Every April the Canadian Cancer Society promotes cancer awareness and raises money for research through its Daffodil Month. With that in mind we thought it would be a good time to post a blog on cancer awareness for our readers. A cancer diagnosis is a death sentence. No one in my family has had cancer so I am not at risk. There is nothing I can do about cancer – if it’s in the cards then I’m destined to get it. The likelihood of dying from cancer in Canada and the US has dropped. Most ca...
