Monday, August 9, 2010. On August 7th visited the Jamestown Settlement. We began our exploration in the Powhatan Indian Village. This area shows the culture of Virginia's original inhabitants with replicas of reed- covered houses, a ceremonial circle and crop fields. We then boarded the Susan Constant, a re-creation of one of the three ships that sailed to Virginia in 1607 to establish America's first permanent English Colony. The ships were really small! We ended our visit to Jamestown by watching a vid...

Arbitrarily Alison: May 2009

Sunday, May 31, 2009. We recently visited Colonial Williamsburg. We love to go to their garden and see what is growing. Mike comes away with ideas to use at home. These are rows of peas. They use twigs to create a trellis for the vines. We noticed they wrap the bottom with cheesecloth to keep out rabbits. This was the first time we saw the artichoke plant with a flower head. I didn't realize that the artichoke is a herb, but cooked as a vegetable. We also saw a flower garden in full bloom. The. Being hap...

Sunday, August 31, 2008. The second half of our three week vacation took place in Utah. This was family and wedding time. It was so wonderful spending time with family - I can't think of a better way to celebrate a wedding for eternity! Late Monday afternoon, Mike and I headed to Logan. We took the Front Runner Train to Ogden, where Michael and JaNae met us. We ate at a wonderful restraurant that had the most amazing berry cobbler before we drove to Logan. It was a beautiful day for flying! I'm not very ...

Sunday, August 15, 2010. Pennisula Fine Arts Center. Thursday, August 12. Tanya and Chris drive down from Boston yesterday and joined our group here in Virginia. The trip took longer than they thought, they got lost a couple times - but were able to find their way. Some of our favorite works were in the ocean collection. The waterfall was handsewn from plastic grocery bags by a blind person. The stitching was amazing! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Musings . . . Pumpkin Soup (soupe au potiron).

Arbitrarily Alison: February 2010
http://amchri.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 1, 2010. They are predicting rain! Snow in Southern Virginia! We had some very cold temperatures and just a hint of snow in the early part of January. The perimeter of the lake was frozen for several days. It was fun to watch the ducks fly in and land on the ice. I'm sure the ducks were grateful that the middle of the lake was not frozen, plenty lake left for feeding and swimming. Today, Monday, all school events have been cancelled and many companies have only essential personnel report...

Friday, August 6, 2010. We took a trip to Utah to visit family and help Tanya and Chris get ready for their move to Boston. Mike really came along for the fishing! He was able to fish with Michael and try out the new fly rod that Jonathan built for him. JaNae and I dropped the guys off in Logan Canyon on Saturday to fish while we went shopping and pampered ourselves with manicures. The guys were successful - Michael catching several fish and Papa landing one - but getting some strikes too! Our family is ...
