Grin and bear it. Come and share it. Yes yes dear dear. Apr 4th, 2010. For balance: I'm knitting myself a hoodie, which is the first proper garment I've made in adult size (and only the third in any size - I'm yer woman for hats and mittens, though), and I've just finished the first sleeve. Next stop for me, the Irish ...

What if we are not, after all, destined for greatness? Friday, September 22, 2006. Pleasure Island. You’ve got to remember. Out of Pinocchio? Couldn't bend their elbows. Then you go downstairs, and steady yourself for what looks like a brief trot to the checkouts, when the path unaccountably veers rightwards and leads you into a giant hangar of a warehouse, and that, my friend, is where the donkey wranglers come out. All in all, I think it’s all gone pretty well, I say. That’s the one, E. says. Then, I t...

What if we are not, after all, destined for greatness? Monday, July 31, 2006. Said I'd be back. It’s about time for my driving lesson. Every Tuesday evening, I sail through South West London, bobble headed at the wheel like Noddy in Toytown, while in the bucketseat beside me, Iqbal grits his teeth and pumps the pedals like a lunatic. Iqbal is an observant Muslim, and anytime we’re caught in traffic, I try to tease out his views on some of the pressing issues of the day. What’s it going to be like, then?

Tell us: what's he really like? Worse: what would they begin to say about her majesty the Queen? You say. "He's everything you imagined and more."
