Adventures of a Northern Teacher: Summer and Loving It!
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2013/06/summer-and-loving-it.html
June 25, 2013. Summer and Loving It! I've officially been back in Denver for over a month now and I couldn't be happier. In addition to picking up some summer bar tending shifts on the weekends, Parker and I have been loving all the fun in the sun! I'll admit, I went through total temperature shock when the weather climbed into the 90s and refused to leave the air conditioned house for a few days, but eventually I got over it and am thankful that no triple digits have been sighted (yet! The theme for the...

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: December 2011
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
December 30, 2011. Break went by entirely too fast and before I even knew it, it was time to say some tearful goodbyes and start back home to Alaska. Thanks to everyone who treated me so well over break and to everyone who made time to see me, I can't wait to come back in May. I love you all and miss you already! Third quarter here I come (cold and all)! December 03, 2011. Sometimes You Have To Say Goodbye. Today my family lost a true gift from God, a woman who will be deeply missed every day. She wa...

December 18, 2012. Gearing Up To Go Home. In just under 48 hours I will be landing in Denver. I can't wait to be back in the mile high city with my friends and family, away from the negative temperatures and severe wind chill! Gearing up to go home is always an adventure and quite a process. There's a lot of planning (and money) that goes in to traveling down states. packing. flights. the actual traveling ordeal. There's nothing quite like it. It's true, people in the lower 48 will give you weird looks w...

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: January 2013
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
January 28, 2013. Today the weather is being downright spiteful. It's completely gray outside with high winds and a biting cold. The weather station down at our airstrip is reporting: -6, feels like -41. January 26, 2013. Talk about vitamin D deficiency! I'm missing sunny Colorado a lot this month. There's a sun behind that mountain! January 24, 2013. When the Lights Go Down. In addition to our water shenanigans from the beginning of this month, we've been dealing with some hissy fits from our generators.

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: September 2012
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
September 30, 2012. Teacher In-Service: Year 2. Last year, I wrote about my very first in-service in the bush. I introduced my wonderful readers to the joys of flying to another village, sleeping on a classroom floor, and not having to cook for myself for two days (yay! This year, instead of being sorted geographically, all teachers were assigned to a site based on what level we teach. For all of us secondary teachers it was off to Mountain Village! Back like a boss. Flying by Kuzi. Starting to get.

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: November 2011
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
November 29, 2011. A Christmas Social Studies Poem. Twas the month before finals, and all through each class. The students were praying for some way to pass. The mobiles were hung by the windows with care. In hopes that a teacher would think they had flare. The children were nestled all snug in their coats. As they tried to remember how to cite those darn quotes! They'd nearly concluded that life was too cruel. With futures depending on grades had in school. When all of a sudden, the door opened wide.

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: April 2012
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
April 30, 2012. So much for April. How is tomorrow the start of May? Honestly, how did that happen? This month has gone by in a blur of activity and I'm sorry I haven't really been posting about it. I could blame my lack of posting on being too busy, but that wouldn't be entirely honest. Instead, I think I'll blame my perpetual state of sleep deprivation that has been forcing me to live on a never-ending caffeine buzz so that I can function. My arch nemesis at 9:45pm. Other than being sleep deprived, I h...

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: March 2012
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
March 26, 2012. A Weekend Without Water. Well, everyone told me it would happen but I chose to ignore them, chose to believe it absolutely couldn't be true, but I was wrong. so very wrong. This story begins when M. and I turned on our faucet Saturday and were greeted by this:. Just great water pressure, right? Luckily, M. and I moved out to Scammon with all of our stuff in 18 gallon Rubbermaid totes. I headed upstairs to grab a few and M. headed outside with a shovel. The next 4 or 5 hour...Finally, Sund...

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: February 2012
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
February 29, 2012. February 02, 2012. I've neglected my blog! I'm sorry it's been a while since I posted. Sometimes time seems to move differently up here. Maybe it's because the days are shorter. Maybe it's because I'm so busy that the day (short as it is) flies by before I notice. And maybe it's because every day reminds me of groundhog day. the movie, not the holiday. The month is gone and I've forgotten to take care of at least three things and keep in touch with people back home. Keeping Tabs On .

Adventures of a Northern Teacher: May 2012
http://northernteacher.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
May 20, 2012. Animals I've Eaten This Year. Living in Alaska has introduced me to so many new things. I've learned to live life differently here and be more adventurous in my daily-doings. M. and I have been chatting on and off the past few days about what we want to do when we get to Anchorage (tomorrow! And that inevitably brought us to the subject of food and how great it will be to eat a salad and drink a beer. yes, as a whole meal. Beer. Salad. Don't judge me. 2 Salmon and Halibut. Bird hunting is b...
