Wind Tunnel Test Section. The idea is to set up the balance so the assembly (wing and lever arm) is level with no air flow. The will all depend on the weight of the wing, the length of the arm, the type of spring, etc. You can add some weight (here, it is a small bag with fishing weights) to balance the arm, per the sketch below. We have been taking the cardboard wind tunnel to various public events, but it is starting to get a little beat up. We've also been wanting to have some space exploration themed displays, so in September 2014 we made a couple in that category. We found plans for this on the national AIAA STEM webpages. It is actually on page 87 in a large NASA booklet of classroom exercises and demos for space topics. Click here. The Phoenix Section of AIAA. The Phoenix Section of AIAA has about professional 400 members distributed among the many aerospace firms in the Phoenix area. We represent engineers employed at such companies as Honeywell, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, Orbital, and General Dynamics. K-12 and STEM Outreach. The 2014 Aerospace Educator Workshop. As part of the Arizona Science and Technology Festival, the Phoenix Section of AIAA and Orbital Sciences held a workshop for teachers. This was a four-hour workshop, aimed at K-12 educators who wish to enhance their understanding of aerospace topics in order to be more effective in teaching related curriculum.
