Try using the Japanese Multiplication method shown in this image: Japanese Multiplication. And if that doesn’t make sense to you, read this mom’s blog site about the strategy: Mom’s Blog Site. Try it yourself, wow your teachers with it, and most importantly, share it with a student who is struggling to understand multiplication.
