Shades of grey (alas not fifty!) | Stephanie Hammill Ceramics
https://stephaniehammillceramics.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/shades-of-grey-alas-not-fifty
Porcelain, agateware, wheel thrown ceramics. Home made sink clay trap. Yes, yes, yes! Shades of grey (alas not fifty! November 10, 2014. Rutile blues have to be the most frustrating glaze ever – (those are the peachy looking ones). I think I am on the right path but will spend next week playing with slip (with bits in) in an attempt to provoke a reaction between the clay body and the glaze. Keep your fingers crossed. Intuitive Sense of Connection. Memories of the Ocean. Standing at Waters Edge. About the Glaze tests. Recently I had a chat with my friends and fellow potters, and the conversation turned to glazes and glaze tests. We all have favorite ways to test, record and document the glazes.and during the conversation I promised to write a blog about my way of testing and documenting. As some test tiles just came out of the kiln, it is a perfect opportunity to tell you about it. First, about the test tiles:. It is ...

Intuitive Sense of Connection. Memories of the Ocean. Standing at Waters Edge. This Easter I was invited to make a work for The Stations of the Cross exhibition held at Wesley Uniting Church in Perth. I have accepted after a serious consideration and soul search. T. O tell the truth, I didn't even know the meaning of The Stations of the Cross until I did some research. I accepted without any idea how to approach the theme, but knowing that it will be a spiritual challenge as well as artistic one. Mother ...

Intuitive Sense of Connection. Memories of the Ocean. Standing at Waters Edge. Saturday, 23 May 2015. I don't usually post about private life, but on this occasion I am making an exception, as it was an exceptional event. On Sunday 25th April my son married his beautiful girlfriend. To commemorate the occasion, I made little vases for each guest. I threw them on the wheel from 230g of white stoneware clay. I used every lump, no rejects, no fuss. Here are the results:. In the kiln before the glaze firing:.

Intuitive Sense of Connection. Memories of the Ocean. Standing at Waters Edge. Thursday, 30 January 2014. After several attempts at prototypes, I am finally happy with curves, thickness and the shape of my triangles. It is great to be making in clay again, although it is hard to imagine how the finished object will look. Image in my mind is still pretty vague. And it keeps changing. Plaster moulds are ready, and making begins:. Pressing coils in the mould. Notice the clay triangle at the top? Drying near...

Intuitive Sense of Connection. Memories of the Ocean. Standing at Waters Edge. Intuitive Sense of Connection. Friday, 3 October 2014. Here and Now 14 has ended and Shape of Thought. Has been taken apart to transport back to the studio. For some time now I have been pondering how to improve the design, and the obvious conclusion is to replace the brackets with the sturdier, welded construction. I have even done a welding for sculptors workshop in anticipation of the next challenge. If you remember, I have...

Intuitive Sense of Connection. Memories of the Ocean. Standing at Waters Edge. Monday, 14 October 2013. We are rapidly moving to the present time with this blog. From now on, we are live on air, figuratively speaking. I am intrigued by making larger objects – always difficult in clay – from smaller components. As I look through my inspirational images collections on computer and in books, I am particularly drawn to. I want to make spherical form reminiscent of seeds, pollen, planktons. Here is my version:.

Monday, March 10, 2008. A year later,I am back on this blog to report. I may just report annually or semi-annually as I have cyber-presences elsewhere.
