Stephen Martin received a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from Central Michigan University, where his principal instructor was David Gillingham. He earned Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Texas at Autin, where he studied composition with Kevin Puts. His compositions include among others, Past Feeling. And We Go On. For solo percussion; Eli; of the Earth. For cello and piano; Impending Disarray. For piano duet; Reflections of a Lost Soul.

He has received performance degrees from Central Michigan University and the University of Texas at Austin. He studied with the late Robert Hohner for eight years, before moving to Austin where he studied with Thomas Burritt. Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble: Ionisation. Recorded almost two decades ago, this classical percussion album will finally be released on August 21, 2015. While still an undergraduate at Central Michigan University, Stephen Martin played on several tracks, including as a soloist on a xylophone ragtime piece, and on his own arrangement of Mendelssohn's finale to Sinfonia No. 9.
