Third Angel Blog: July 2014
http://thirdangeluk.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 July 2014. Monthly Film: A PERFECT CIRCLE. July’s Monthly Film is A Perfect Circle. Which we wrote about quite a lot as we were making it:. So I asked Chris to reflect on the actual shoot. He said:. I didn't want to make this film. I wanted to make something entirely different. But we ended up in a studio in Sheffield for two days making A Perfect Circle. Which was a good start. We abbreviate to APC. Climbing with gritted teeth up the ladder to retrieve the footage for a quick mid-shoot revi...

Third Angel Blog: Leeds Library Residency
http://thirdangeluk.blogspot.com/2015/06/leeds-library-residency.html
Tuesday, 23 June 2015. In July we’re in residence in Leeds Library as part of the WordPlay. Some time ago we decided to call the residency Cause and Effect. Thinking we would be developing ideas towards a project with that name. But as sometimes happens, the ‘thing that needs to be made next’ has shifted. We had such a good time making the one-off verbatim piece Labour Intensive earlier this year, and we came away feeling we had only begun to scratch the surface of this idea. We will be resident in Leeds.

Wednesday, 31 December 2014. The Beauty of the Proof. When the building is finished, you take away the scaffolding. You know how they say, “Proof denies faith”? Well for me, proof gives me faith. Or rather, the way proof is achieved. Someone once said to me: don’t give up on a good idea just because it’s wrong. It takes time to prove something. A long time. Something worth proving, anyway. A first proof is ugly. Inelegant. Long. Way too long. But it’s all there. Check my working for me? And if you’...

Third Angel Blog: We're hiring!
http://thirdangeluk.blogspot.com/2015/06/were-hiring.html
Thursday, 11 June 2015. If you're a regular visitor to this blog, you may have noticed that we're pretty busy. In fact, I'd go as far as to say we punch above our weight, productivity wise, for a company of 3 people, all working part time. You may also have noticed that we do our best to support those starting out in the industry. It's something we feel pretty strongly about. We all benefit from the next generation getting the chance learn, to find their thing, to be their best. Third Angel Related Links.

Third Angel Blog: Edfringe Diary 1: Thoughts on the train
http://thirdangeluk.blogspot.com/2015/08/thoughts-on-train.html
Monday, 3 August 2015. Edfringe Diary 1: Thoughts on the train. Here we are, on the train, on the way to Edinburgh, one of my favourite cities. I’m looking forward to it. We’re also on the way, specifically, to the Edinburgh Fringe, and I wanted to write something about that. But Facebook and Twitter are full of people making the same journey, on trains, on coaches, in vans and cars, so I don’t know how much I have to add. In 2005, and we opened Cape Wrath. We’ve worked with Northern Stage in Edinb...

Third Angel Blog: On Editing, Paradise and Presumption
http://thirdangeluk.blogspot.com/2015/05/on-editing-paradise-and-presumption.html
Friday, 15 May 2015. On Editing, Paradise and Presumption. In an edit suite at the Northern Media School, Sheffield, there are two pieces of paper stuck on the wall. On one of them is written the phrase:. IF IN DOUBT, LEAVE IT OUT. IF YOU CAN’T WIN, LEAVE IT IN. I have a new article in the new edition of Contemporary Theatre Review. It is happily nestled in the backpages section alongside work by Hannah Silva and Maddy Costa (to name but two). And, it's free to download. You can read it here. Barbara Cam...

Tuesday, 26 August 2014. Inspiration Exchange at Greenbelt: Story of the Day. As ever I choose too many stories in advance - more than I can possibly swap in (in this instance) five hours. That way I'm not deciding exactly what stories are told. And as ever I feel bad in advance for the stories that won't get told. We open on time, and it's non-stop for four hours. I swap AN ESCAPED LUNATIC ON CANNOCK CHASE. For CAMEL ON THE BEACH. I swap DEAD JELLYFISH. For I'M GOING ANYWAY. I swap A 6B PENCIL. For "YOU...

Third Angel Blog: September 2014

Wednesday, 17 September 2014. Psalter Lane, six years on. It feels like this is the last in the series.*. Six years ago I was asked to write a piece for the Sheffield Telegraph about the closure of "Psalter Lane" - which many people in Sheffield understand to mean Sheffield Hallam University's Psalter Lane Campus - an art school. Sheffield Hallam were moving their art teaching to be part of their city centre campus. You can see all of those. But knowing me there'll be a Psalter Lane 10 or 11 years on.
