Montgomery Trucking: Songs Old and New
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008/11/songs-old-and-new.html
Monday, November 3, 2008. Songs Old and New. Over the years, I have tried to keep up with the premieres of my favorite composer, Ned Rorem. He's still living and composing up a storm in New York. We were excited about the premiere, but I still didn't know exactly what was being debuted and why. I thought maybe it would be ten minutes or so of new song material. Songs Old and New. Here's a play by play:. Such Beauty As Hurts to Behold by Paul Goodman. The soprano was catching her breath for this number an...

Montgomery Trucking: May 2008
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 15, 2008. I can't believe what's happening in central China right now. Good thing I wasn't able to hop on a plane and visit Chengdu like I mentioned in a recent post. That was one of the hardest hit cities. And now, hundreds of thousands are experiencing untold loss. And a co-worker friend of mine is vacationing there now. I haven't heard from her since this happened and she was in Chongqing when the first quake hit. Links to this post. Saturday, May 10, 2008. Of course, the plot and charac...

Montgomery Trucking: The East is Red!
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008/08/east-is-red.html
Saturday, August 9, 2008. The East is Red! I woke up in a China state of mind after watching those spectacular opening ceremonies last night. I spent the evening in awe, just gaping at the television. It was the same sense of awe I've felt in Tienanmen Square, on a night train to Beijing or on a street corner watching China whirl by me. As I watched the ceremony, I was overwhelmed with emotion. How did I first fall in love with China? And how has my China turned into the world's stage this summer? 1 Alth...

Montgomery Trucking: Presidential Tuesday
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008/10/presidential-tuesday.html
Wednesday, October 8, 2008. I like to be in the middle of major events. I like the camaraderie, the celebratory feel of things. Since the presidential debates were in town yesterday, I wanted to be in the middle of things. By that, I mean, at a bar close to the action. It was a beautiful night in Nashville. It's fall; we'd just gotten some rain and the interstate sounded like it was rumbling into infinity. Sorry you didn't get to be on boring national television! If not that's fine, but the MySpace ones ...

Montgomery Trucking: April 2008
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 24, 2008. Blasting Agents and Rush Hour. Ok, I may have lost a few readers after that last post. The references and curse words from my first tipsy blogging experience had consequence. It's true; I don't know what Ouaichita drug lit is. I made that term up. This "lit" consists of a compilation of writings a few of my fellow alumna created. That's 100,000 times 10, 350 times. That's how I explained it to myself. That's like contemplating infinity, isn't it? How do so many people live here?

Montgomery Trucking: Greensleeves
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008/10/greensleeves.html
Friday, October 3, 2008. I like to watch the arts channel, especially while sipping a Terrapin beer after an 11 hour day at the end of a workweek. Tonight, Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Greensleeves" was on, accompanied by Versailles-filled stills. The Sequoyas, mountains, waterfalls, canvas-tent cabins, countless stars, Sierra sweet air and bear scares. And Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Greensleeves" on my walkman cassette. Now that's a Friday night. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Paul Gubbins Radio Show.

Montgomery Trucking: March 2008
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 28, 2008. Rachmoninoff Piano Concerto No. 2. It's Friday night; I'm drinking a beer and getting ready for the Symphony. They're doing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. I attended last night and, knowing I could never get enough of it, got tickets for tonight too. It's been one of my favorite pieces since I was young. The performance was among the best I've seen. With the Rach 2, though, water and continents couldn't hold it. During the performance last night, I was distracted- wondering ...

Montgomery Trucking: March 2009
http://montgomerytrucking.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 1, 2009. Loudon Wainwright tonight looked kind of small on the stage and when he turned his head to the left, he looked just like Rufus. But he also sang of some bitch who dropped his guitar in Durango, Colorado. She worked for the airline, I guess, and poor Loudon sings that he saw her straight up drop the hell out of his Martin D 28. Is that the famous model? Loudon said, "It's beautiful? And kept going. I guess that's all the encouragement the guy needed. If he'd've been in opera...
