Stephen Dolph, NISE REU. June 29, 2009 at 10:37 am ( Uncategorized. On Friday, we presented our initial research of possible sensors that will be used for the user interface on our project. We will now investigate the feasibility of each sensor based on its safety, compatibility with the mobile devices we will be using, the applicable errors, and cost. Also, a few more suggestion for sensors were proposed; we will also investigate them as possible solutions. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Week 3 Update | Stephen Dolph, NISE REU
https://stephendolph.wordpress.com/2009/06/25/week-3-update
Stephen Dolph, NISE REU. June 25, 2009 at 11:26 am ( Uncategorized. Monday and Tuesday, we spent our time independently learning C and studying current algorithms used in the robotic system. We also researched several ideas on user interfaces with the robot. This included exploration of disability specific needs and investigation of optimal postures. Research was somewhat slow since we did not have one distinct problem to solve, but a somewhat vague and open-ended design problem. Enter your comment here.

More String Testing | Big Mac's Blog
https://kilomac.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/more-string-testing
Big Mac's Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. We found ourselves running the dead load test again, but this time on burlap. Burlap is simply jute twine in a plain weave (one warp to one weft) as can be seen below. To discover the strength of the burlap, individual strings were removed from the mesh and tested by pouring sand in a bucket until failure of the string. Results showed that, like jute, the individual fibers withstood less stress than sisal fibers. By kilomac on July 7, 2009.

Big Mac's Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. After testing the constituent material properties, it was time to incorporate them in a composite part. To do this, we used vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). The injection took place on Friday, June 19. After the part was allowed to cure for three days, we removed the vacuum and recovered our fabricated part. Here are some pictures of how it turned out. By kilomac on June 28, 2009. K Barber's NISE time. Peptides, polymers, and paprika. Un petit peu de moi. July 10, 2009. There was a materials science and engineering potluck today! It was awesome. Nearly all of the grad students and postdocs, it seems, are not from the U.S., so most of the food was authentic Chinese and Indian food. It was really tasty, although at least one of the dishes was uber-spicy. My mouth was on fire! Filed in Week 5. Laquo; Previous Entries. Un petit peu de moi. RETs in my Lab.

K Barber's NISE time. Peptides, polymers, and paprika. Un petit peu de moi. July 6, 2009. Sorry to have completely missed updating last week – things were very busy! Nearly every weeknight, I was either home having dinner with my parents, or at one of my friends’ houses, etc. So! Here are a few highlights from last week:. We only got about a two-hour heads’ up on their visit, so everyone was running around double-checking all the waste. It was really good that the lab had been cleaned on Monday...On Wedn...

K Barber's NISE time. Peptides, polymers, and paprika. Un petit peu de moi. June 25, 2009. Well, I’ve made it to Thursday of the week on my own – success! Here’s yesterday’s news, since I didn’t get a chance to record it:. My mom enjoyed watching me (she’s a scientist, too) with a pair of safety glasses snagged from Charlie’s horde of safety supplies. Not much to do in the lab today – the peptide synthesis machine is still hours and hours away from finishing my second peptide. Anyway, I guess today is mo...

Stephen Dolph, NISE REU. July 14, 2009 at 2:28 pm ( Uncategorized. We began the week by modifying one of the robot’s interfaces for the seated position. The goal was to make the robot more compact and easier to control. This included changing the controller and modifying the structure of the user interface. Because this task is complete, we will begin programming new control systems while we wait for more parts to be delivered. July 7, 2009 at 10:25 pm ( Uncategorized.
