THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG: What's Your Source?
http://house-of-sternberg.blogspot.com/2015/05/whats-your-source.html
THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG. Friday, May 08, 2015. A student breathlessly proclaimed, "They are rounding people up and putting them in camps.". And where did you hear that? On the internet.". We can smile at this student and forgive him his gullibility, but an amazing number of people, many well educated and reasonable, are just as susceptible to gobbling up worthless information and spitting it out as if it were gospel. The source of the story? I know, you don't have the time for in-depth research. That'...

THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG: Beginning The Path To Mindfulness
http://house-of-sternberg.blogspot.com/2015/05/beginning-path-to-mindfulness.html
THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Beginning The Path To Mindfulness. One concept presented in Kabat-Zinn's. Is that "If you are preoccupied with what is already known, you can't make that leap into that other dimension of creativity or imagination." As a writer, that statement gave me pause. Looking at mindfulness, I ponder that if I live in the here and now, then how will that affect one's writing? It is the opposite of "write what you know." Or is it? THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG: Teaching To The Pest
http://house-of-sternberg.blogspot.com/2015/05/teaching-to-pest.html
THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG. Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Teaching To The Pest. I hate movies about teaching. Maybe being a teacher sours me to depictions of the profession. I'm not the compassionate John Keating standing on my desk to inspire students into sneaking off for late night poetry readings- as if. And I can't help but wonder if this role didn't in some way contribute to Robin Williams' suicide). And damned, I missed Teacher Appreciation Week again. The plain fact is that education is itself a form of pro...

THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG: September 2013
http://house-of-sternberg.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
THE HOUSE OF STERNBERG. Saturday, September 14, 2013. Running With Scissors.Don't Say I'm Not Bad. Publisher Weekly put out a list of evil characters in literature, perhaps to prove that the PW doesn't know the definition of evil. At the top of their list, Mr. Hyde. Really? Okay, maybe Cruella DeVil. I mean, if you want to make a puppy coat, you must be pretty disgusting. From the Sherlock Holmes series by A.C. Doyle. How Moriarty didn't make the list from PW befuddles me. By Stewart Sternberg. This ...

John Peters' Dark Scribblings. Writing and publishing suspense, thriller, romance and horror fiction. My published short fiction. Sunday, July 27, 2014. Back in the old ball game. I wasn't sure what to say in the rebirth of my little blog, John's Dark Scribblings, so I thought I'd just say hello. After all, what does one start a conversation after a nearly 14-month absence? So, hello, and welcome back. Between that loss in the late winter and the fall of 2013, there were more changes for our family, more...
