Where is this church? | Stephen says…
https://stephensays.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/where-is-this-church
Hampshire churches, pubs, nature and the occasional rant. Where is this church? This country church is in Devon or Somerset, almost certainly in the vicinity of the (old) A303. The photo was taken many years ago by my friend Steve Cooke. Unfortunately, he did not record where it was, and subsequent efforts to locate it have so far been unsuccessful. I’m hoping that some of my readers, many of whom visit my blog for its country church content, may be able to help. West Country church (Photo: Steve Cooke).

Hampshire churches, pubs, nature and the occasional rant. A pilgrimage to Florence Nightingale’s burial place. This morning I went to see Florence Nightingale’s burial place at the church of St Margaret of Antioch in the village of Wellow in Hampshire. When Florence, a national heroine, died at the age of 90 her relatives were offered a state burial in Westminster Abbey. They declined, preferring the parish church of her home. Florence Nightingale’s memorial. The Florence Nightingale of popular myth is a...

Hampshire churches, pubs, nature and the occasional rant. The river Itchen and ‘Spike Island’. The city of Southampton is divided geographically and to some extent culturally by the river Itchen. Those who live on the eastern side of the Itchen are still sometimes referred to by Sotonians as ‘Spike Islanders’, and there is a pub in Sholing called. In his remarkable book. The river Itchen at Twyford. Itchen Bridge, Southampton. Southampton is thus a city of two rivers, which, when they meet, form Southamp...
