Steve at CERN: 02/25/08

http://steveatcern.blogspot.com/2008_02_25_archive.html

A log of the items I'm working on at work during my time at CERN. Monday, 25 February 2008. Graph the FTS Deployment. The FTS deployment is of course made up of channels between sites in the EGEE/LCG grid. This plot shows all the channels as queried from the BDII as lines connecting the sites. The grouping of nodes by colours represents all the channels managed by a single FTS instance. Again it is another plot that is almost impossible to use. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Steve at CERN: SA1 Nagios Deployment Update

http://steveatcern.blogspot.com/2009/01/sa1-nagios-deployment-update.html

A log of the items I'm working on at work during my time at CERN. Thursday, 29 January 2009. SA1 Nagios Deployment Update. The EGEE SA1 Nagios bundle was released yesterday with significant updates. A list of Sites can now be collected using the GOCDB's new API. In particular a list of sites in a ROC or in a Country can be monitored extending the previous LDAP filter on Sites. Downtimes entered in the GOCDB are now also pulled into and inserted as NAGIOS downtimes for your services. Can still be done com...

A log of the items I'm working on at work during my time at CERN. Friday, 25 April 2008. In the last two or three weeks GGUS. Is now serving an experimental rss. Feed of new posts. Watching the posts there is a whole new view on what is really happening at a low level of 1 to 1 GRID operations. My aim is to post once a week a summary of the three or so most interesting or relevant tickets. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Steve's Tasks - Work. Egee tcg wn batch information.

A log of the items I'm working on at work during my time at CERN. Monday, 23 March 2009. Installed Capacity at CHEP. This week is CHEP 09. Proceeded by WLCG workshop. I presented some updates on the roll out of the installed capacity document. It included examples of a few sites that would have zero capacity if considered under the new metrics. Sites should consider taking the following actions. In particular the view obtained by clicking on the more. Label and selecting the "size by SI00 and LogicalCPUs".

ctria is blogging...: Could you please nslookup my CRL?

http://ctria.blogspot.com/2011/02/could-you-please-nslookup-my-crl.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Could you please nslookup my CRL? How do you publish your CRLs? The common answer to this is via an http(s) URL or from an LDAP server. If you hosted a CA that serves Grid community you would find out soon that your CDPs are hit very hard. According to our logs we get more than 250 hits per minute in order to download a file sized in most of the times less than 100 KB. So yesterday on my way home i was thinking what if we host all the CRLs on a DNS server? Αναρτήθηκε από Christ...

Saturday, March 31, 2012. This post is about a really special failure that i had recently which i find as a success. About a month ago i had a totally unexpected contact from a nice guy from Mountain View. He send me an email telling me that he is part of Google Staffing team and asking me if i'm interested to join the Google.com Engineering team. It turned out to be my involvement to opensource projects especially about machine deployment (via quattor. And monitoring (via nagios. I'll be a googler!

ctria is blogging...: July 2009

http://ctria.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 17, 2009. Bye bye gLite 3.0. The last piece of gLite 3.0 node was decommissioned this week with the shutdown of node001.grid.auth.gr. This node was the sBDII/lcg-CE for GR-01-AUTH for long time now and was serving as Torque server for local PBS queues. A new node (XEN guest node with SL4-x86 64 and gLite 3.1) was setup in April to take over this task but the migration of the local users/queues was postponed till July. The node has already processed tens of thousands jobs. Kernel.sem = 250.

Sunday, June 28, 2009. You can do the DB scheme work online! I'm working on a project with colleagues from other institutes. Within this project we decided to some work on a client-server model application with a database back-end. We had many mail exchanges, nice figures to describe workflows, phone meetings, video conference meetings but it was time to start doing some work. And it is open-source. Of course there is a demo installation. To use if you don't want to install it your self. Then i thought t...

http://ctria.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 26, 2012. People who know me probably know that when it comes to fabric management i'm a fan of Quattor. Quattor is a great tool that can manage nodes from installation part (utilizing pxeboot and kickstart) till fine-tuning service features. While Quattor is a strong tool that could help administering hundreds or even thousands of nodes, it has some weak spots which i'd like to get rid of:. Very steep learning curve. Use of a custom programming language ( PAN. I'm thinking of a solution wh...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. November 13, 2009. Since the first version of the .NET framework an XML DOM has been available for manipulating and searching XML documents. This has been in the System.Xml. Namespace and used classes like XmlDocument. These xml classes support XPath. Queries. XPath allows any xml node or list of nodes to be queried using an XPath expression. In NET framework 3.5 the System.Xml.Linq. Namespace was added with which provides the LINQ to XML classes, see. Steve Thornton @ Breeze Photographic. 3 June, 2009. Is it just me, or is the world waking up? They do say that small businesses are the barometer of the economy (don’t they? Well after a quiet spell earlier in the year, it seems at the moment as if the phone is perpetually ringing.
