Merida

Although Merida is called the White City, most of the buildings were colorful. Our hotel underwent a change from gold to coral while we were there. The Cathederal across the zocalo. Folk dancers. There was music somewhere everynight. Our guide keeps us out of the sun - 106 degrees. The knife sharpeners equipment. The mercado - old part. The tour bus sometimes breaks down. Mansion of a sisal millionaire, now a museum. Sprucing up the 'hood. Dawn at the Merida airport. Time to go home.

Lake Powell by Houseboat September 2005. Red rocks, white clouds and blue skys. See the buoy? The marina at Bullfrog. Or was this Halls Landing, across the lake? Lake Powell - the previous high water obscured many features like the partial arch on the right. Water level was 3602 feet above sea level when we visited, down from the record of 3708 that set the top of the bath tub ring. Level increased some this year but a long term decline is still forecast. Sailing the main channel.

Provence was not even on our list until our friends Bill and Sara called to say they were renting a house near Gordes for two weeks, and would we be interested in sharing it with them? The Arizona Inn was built in the 1930s by Isabella Greenway and is run by her granddaughter now. The Inn consists of 86 rooms in one and two story pink adobe buildings scattered over 14 acres.
