Steve’s skifahrerische Anfänge liegen in den nordischen Disziplinen des Langlaufens und Biathlon. Er arbeitete als Überlebenstrainer in arktischem Klima im Norden Norwegens und als Ski- und Snowboardlehrer und Off-piste Guide am Arlberg in Österreich. Dieser ist inzwischen zu seinem Basecamp (Heim) geworden, wo er sich in den Bergen herumtreibt, auf der Suche nach neuen Pulverhängen, die abseits der Pisten nur zu Fuss erreichbar sind.

So sah das ganze am nächsten Morgen aus! In der Nacht hatte es angefangen zu schneien und die Strasse war gesperrt worden. Nun hiess es sprichwörtlich warten und Tee trinken - was in Indien sehr süßen Schwarztee mit Milch (chai) bedeutet. Und das auf einer Höhe von über 4600m! Letztendlich startete er doch!
