Photographing Flocks (or What the Flock to do? Option 1 – Change the subject. A small flock of gulls. A common sight but the image just fails to work. One option for photographing flocks is to make them part of a larger scene. Option 2 – focus in on a single bird. If you can work your way in close enough, you can isolate a single bird from wit...

Bringing you Oregon and the world one photo at a time. Birds in Flight Photos. Birds of Prey Photos. Puffin Photos and their Allies. Seascape and Landscape Photos. Each year, in the winter, Susan and I spend a week in Klamath Falls. There are tremendous numbers and variety of ducks, geese and swans around at this time and, thus, many of the images in the waterfowl photos gallery come from this area. Port Orford Heads
http://www.hikingbandon.com/bandon-area-hikes/port-orford-heads
Gold and Silver Falls. The Port Orford Heads State park provides a nice loop trail of a mile or so with a couple of options for branching off. The trails are very well maintained and receive regular but moderate use. Most of the trail is dirt but there are portions that are paved. The park is day use only and is only open April through October. A map of the trails at the Port Orford Heads is located in the parking area. The trails stay high up on the heads and weave in and out of thick forest areas. ...

Gold and Silver Falls. New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern. The view from the blind at Muddy Lake. The New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern, as is indicated by it’s name, places a focus on wildlife protection. It is a nesting area for Snowy Plover and an important stop over for Aleutian Canada Geese. In order to protect these birds, the last section of road and the foredune are closed to access part of the year. The drive to New River is pretty strait forward. From Bandon, dr...

Humbug Mountain
http://www.hikingbandon.com/bandon-area-hikes/humbug-mountain
Gold and Silver Falls. Humbug Mountain as seen from Port Orford’s Battle Rock Park. The Humbug Mountain Trail is not for the faint of heart. While not tremendously long at a total of 4 1/2 miles, this trail will leave one feeling like they hiked up a mountain. Which they did. Nearby is a second trail that we have not hiked and, thus can not speak to very well. It is called the “Old Highway Trail” and is paved most of the way. This trail parralels the current highway in either dircetio...To get to this tr...

Gold and Silver Falls. Gold and Silver Falls. Susan, Gage and I at the top of Golden Falls. Gold and Silver Falls are two quite short hikes, each ending at a good sized falls. At Golden Falls there is a trail that leads to the top providing a “birds eye view” of the falls and canyon below. 8211; The trail head for these two hikes is located approximately 25 miles East of highway 101. Blacklock Point
http://www.hikingbandon.com/bandon-area-hikes/blacklock-point
Gold and Silver Falls. The Blacklock Point Trail is one of the best hikes in the Bandon area. Locating it is easy but there are no signs telling of it’s existence. Thus, it receives relatively little use. The trail is about 1 mile more or less each way. If one takes a little trip toward Floras Lake, it will add mileage. Much of the trail is through fairly think young forest. However, the trail is very well maintained. Looking to the South there is a trail that leads down off the bluff. This trail wil...
