Life before blogging: My National Service by No.21067688 Signalman Gilham A E

Friday, 13 July 2007. My National Service by No.21067688 Signalman Gilham A E. It all started - as things usually do - with a letter addressed to me (Alan E Gilham) shortly after my eighteenth birthday. It contained an invitation from His Majesty's Government to attend at Whittington Barracks near Lichfield on the 1st January 1948, and asked "Did I have any objections? As I was not in a reserved occupation how could I object? The next week we started the course and I eventually became a D3 assistant line...

Thursday, 10 July 2003. Let's deal with *that* book (. You-know-who and the Order of the Phœnix. Now in paperback,. Returns us to the world of China Miévilles. To follow what befalls one of the peripheral characters who got out of New Crobuzon while the going was good. Not quite as bleak as its predecessor, it is still just as darkly Gormenghastian in its construction, both in its use of language, and in its setting in an urban labyrinth. I did manage to read this one all in one sitting, which. By SF Sai...
Life before blogging: That bloody woman…
http://beforeblogging.blogspot.com/2007/08/that-bloody-woman.html
Friday, 31 August 2007. That bloody woman…. Ten years ago, I had just gone out for a curry, and on the drive home, turned on the radio to hear a solemn announcement about the Prince of Wales meeting a coffin. No, it turned out to be that woman. "A not-quite-accidental overdose of slimming pills? I wondered, "But anyway, 'Ding dong! The bitch is dead! And so that means that Charles should now be able to marry his first love.". 2 December 2007 at 17:22. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Tuesday, 8 April 2008. Carnarvon Western Australia 1965 – 1967. Entering the town of Carnarvon for the first time in early November 1965 was reminiscent of going into a film set of an early Western Movie, the red earth, the swing doors in the saloon and the verandas which adorned the Hotels and shops in the main street were redolent of that era, apart from the names over the shops like Wesfarmers, Dalgettys, Fitz’s Newsagents and Fongs. Christmas shopping over the real work began at the Tracking Station;...

Friday, 26 September 2003. My Life in Glorantha. As anyone who's read my other RPG posts. 8212; and especially my background page. 8212; will know, I burned out on gaming in early 1995 — and that I spend a lot of time on those pages talking about either variant. But other systems are only mentioned in passing. As it happens, I've had a love/hate relationship with RQ/Glorantha for going on 25 years now. I first encountered Glorantha in the form of the original. But never did anything with. And started to ...

Friday, 30 September 2005. Bleys (June 2002 - 30th September 2005). Bleys (ginger) was a softie — happy to be cuddled and stroked, and purring when fussed or when eating, much like Smoke. Not the swiftest on the up-take, but compensated for it by being very beautiful — and knowing it! Run over on a dark Friday evening. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, 22 November 2004. Smoke (1st March 1989 - 22nd November 2004). Smoke's favourite food used to be cat biscuit. But as his teeth failed and he got crankier, and always hungry it was just the jelly from lumps-in-jelly, or occasional mouthfuls of senior cat food. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Distributed Memory
Diary, commentary, reviews, snippets to preserve on-line. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Today concludes my first year logging my journeys on the Cambridgeshire Cycle Challenge website. Over which span I've logged 601 journeys covering 4204 miles; supposedly 1372.0 kg CO2 saved (ignoring my increased respiration when burning the 155,532 calories it tells me I have spent doing so) and saving £989.69 on fuel (ignoring the costs of fueling me or running through consumables like chains). A Life on the Border
A Life on the Border. Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Most posts on this blog start with some variation of the sentence "It has been a while since my last post." This post is no different; in fact it's even more the case, since it has been over three years since the last time I wrote anything! Somehow the knowledge that there is nothing else to do before sleeping, the darkness, the quiet, and the gradual feeling of drowsiness combine in weird ways to breed pockets of motivation. There are many ways to pray,...
