BONE and STONE CARVER, TEACHER, AUTHOR. Most of the old pre-European wood carving of Maori in Aotearoa, New Zealand, was done with adzes, and mallet and chisel work was mostly just used for the surface decoration, Kowhaiwhai. In contemporary Maori Carving the mallet and chisel is used for most cuts and only the larger two handed adze used for roughing out. I would like to see the small hand adze regain its place in the tool box.

I travelled to Whakatane in the North Island of New Zealand where my uncle owns a Nursery. Nestled in a gully with no cell reception, and dial-up for internet I found time to experiment with my editing software. It was a great break away. BTW it is 72dpi. I'm going to work on some new bone carvings over the next week and also a sculpture. There are some little light blurs happening on the top image created from the gloss surface the image was resting on for the photo.
