A Good Morning – Steven's Notebook

http://steven.vorefamily.net/2015/05/02/a-good-morning

Look Ma - No Hands! May 2, 2015. My wife and I had plans to see Avengers:Age of Ultron this morning; we’d had pre-purchased tickets at our local cinema, reserved seating and all. When we arrived, though, and were picking up our tickets, we changed our mind. Hilary and I looked at each other, knowing that all the other theaters would be just as sold out this weekend, and didn’t even have to say anything. We just turned to the man and gave him our tickets and told the boy to have fun. 8592; Previous Post.

On Measurement – Steven's Notebook

http://steven.vorefamily.net/2015/02/11/on-measurement

Look Ma - No Hands! February 11, 2015. I read this the other day, as part of a discussion about monies; in particular the fact that at one point in history not all currencies were divided into decimals, as the US Dollar is (ten pennies = one dime, ten dimes = one dollar). I believe it’s originally from Terry Pratchett’s book Good Omens. In the UK they resisted decimal currency for a long time because they thought that “100 pennies to 1 pound” was too complicated”. In comparison, I offer this:.

VMWare Fusion vs GoToMeeting – who’s in charge? – Steven's Notebook

http://steven.vorefamily.net/2013/10/17/fusion-gtm

Look Ma - No Hands! VMWare Fusion vs GoToMeeting – who’s in charge? October 17, 2013. I keep running into an odd problem with GoToMeeting. On my Mac – when I try to open a meeting via URL, it launches a VMWare Fusion. Session (presumably to try to launch GoToMeeting in Windows) instead of just using the perfectly-functioning GoToMeeting for Macintosh application that exists on my system. No dice – no matter what, every time click a GTM hyperlink, Fusion still insisted on opening the Virtual machine.

Gorillas and Cows – Steven's Notebook

http://steven.vorefamily.net/2014/02/18/gorillas-and-cows

Look Ma - No Hands! February 18, 2014. At last night’s meetup of the Software Testing Club Atlanta. Hosted a workshop on Creative and Critical Thinking. John had a lot of good information for us, had us play games. And fostered a lot of good discussion. One of the discussions circled around the topics of information overload and Alan Page. 8216;s favorite gorilla. Daniel Simons’ The Monkey Business Illusion. If you’ve never seen the gorilla video. Just don’t care. For a concrete example, consider the cow...

Lessons Learned by a Software Tester: Salary Thieves

http://swtester.blogspot.com/2013/04/salary-thieves.html

Lessons Learned by a Software Tester. Yesterday I attended a Waterloo Agile Lean. Session on Story Mapping presented by Mark Levison. I had heard of Story Mapping but hadn't worked through it before. I liked the hands-on exercises approach Mark took to help us understand the process and benefits of that technique. This blog post is not. I love learning and take any opportunity I can to hear different speakers present on topics that I think may be of value. Sometimes I even attend the same. I tasked the s...

Dang, it's been a whole week since I've posted! Glenda and I went shopping for accessories this weekend. She bought this jacket. Which looks good on her, some boots. And two helmets. One half helmet. Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.". 7/6/15, 2:12 PM. I'd intended to call this post, "Summer of Suck," but I'm trying to be a little less negative. Two weeks ago I was out walking Bodhi when he started one of his silly, high-speed sprints in a circle at the end of his very long leash. He screamed, which is a sound I'd never heard a dog make before and hope to never hear again, and fell at my feet. It turns out he very likely tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). I'd been planning to head u...

When Microsoft launched Windows XP in late 2001, they made a big deal about the changes to the user interface, which were the biggest revamp since Windows 95. I found it surprising, coming barely a year after the mature and evolved Windows 2000 interface. The changes were controversial, with many people hating the new “Fisher Price” appearance. Personally I quite like it but then I'm fortunate enough to have a 17". I think the Windows XP. Exhibit A: The Welcome Screen. To begin, click your user name.

Last week I traveled to Toronto, Ontario for an equipment inspection. It was a pretty nice trip, except for when I got waved into immigration at the airport. I've flown into Canada twice, and both times I got the wave. So, I'm either really unlucky, or I look highly suspicious. The dome was retracted and the weather. It is ...
