Steven Powers (SMP): Visual Artist: Working with Vine Charcoal ...Value Sketching
http://www.stevenpowerssmp.com/2014/08/working-with-vine-charcoal-value.html
About / Contact / Prints. Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Working with Vine Charcoal .Value Sketching. Here I demonstrate how I use vine charcoal to do a value sketch which helps me to visualize a new character. It is a great approach to opening up one's imagination. I had to do a voice-over since the original audio contained too much noise. Posted by Steven Powers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Steven Powers (SMP): Visual Artist: Trees in Charcoal
http://www.stevenpowerssmp.com/2015/01/trees-in-charcoal.html
About / Contact / Prints. Thursday, January 8, 2015. I drew these for Christmas presents this year. They co-inside with an upcoming tutorial on sketching trees. The above where started in graphite on Canson 140lb watercolor paper. Then I add the dark and detail with Charcoal. I have more control shaping with graphite in the initial stages, which also allows me to sculpt with the eraser easier than with charcoal. Both of these are done on 11x14 inches paper with a display area of 10x8 inches.

Steven Powers - Painter. Steven Powers - Painter. Steven Powers: Recent Work. A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, and some fantasy. When you always make your meaning perfectly plain you end up boring people. In our time there are many artists who do something because it is new; they see their value and their justification in this newness. They are deceiving themselves; novelty is seldom the essential.
