Open the kitchen window when cooking and keep lids on saucepans. Use the tumble dryer to dry clothes rather than hanging clothes in the flat. Use the heating when it is cold. Leave a gap between furniture (such as the bed) and the wall to enable air to circulate.

This is important so that not only can he get it fixed as soon as possible to. Minimise the impact on the tenant and other residents (for example downstairs). Prevent any further damage to the property. If you have any large items that you need taken away please phone the council to arrange collection.

If the machine has special self cleaning programmes, use them! This will reduce the likelihood of a leak. Don’t use the washing machine overnight or when you are not in the property. If there is a leak you are far more likely to spot it quickly and limit any damage from a leak if you are in the property.
