Steve Tilley's Blog

Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Mark Haddon's novel 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' was a highly original piece of writing. The unreliable narrator has been an interesting literary device for many years. Haddon's narrator was a teenage boy, Christopher, with Asperger's Syndrome. Not unreliable but one who saw the world very differently to most of us. It has left Bristol now but will doubtless be around for a while. Posted by Steve Tilley. Links to this post. Steve Tilley's Blog: Jurassic World

http://stevetilley.blogspot.com/2015/07/jurassic-world.html

Monday, July 27, 2015. There's a moment in this film where the owners of the Jurassic World attraction discuss the motivation they had to genetically modify a dinosaur. They lament the fact that the visitor numbers had reduced and the boffin reminds the owner what he had said 'We need more teeth.'. Jurassic Park was a new genre of disaster movie but pretty much the only disaster that could occur was escaping creatures. It was well done but the premise was established. I never went to the sequel. If you l...

http://stevetilley.blogspot.com/2015/07/thought-for-day_17.html

Friday, July 17, 2015. Thought for the Day. Today's thought, delivered at BBC Radio Bristol:. As I heard of heart transplant patient Kevin Mashford cycling from Bristol to Newcastle another name popped into my head. Louis Washkansky. Followed by that of Dr Christiaan Barnard. Hidden in my mind, but stuck there by constant repetition. In 1967 Washkansky was given the world's first heart transplant; Barnard the surgeon. And I've been stitched up a couple of times without pain. Thank you anaesthesia. Broadc...

Steve Tilley's Blog: Missing Scripture

http://stevetilley.blogspot.com/2015/08/missing-scripture.html

Saturday, August 08, 2015. One of the joys of Daily Prayer is following the readings systematically through scripture. As one who does not give a glance to festivals such as the Feast of the Transfiguration it annoys me intensely if I find myself saying Morning Prayer with people who are strict about the lectionary rather than simply working out which readings to drop in. The sequence is broken. Mark has a question he sets for his readers. It is, 'Who is this man? If we omit these verses we may well feel...

Steve Tilley's Blog: Rev - some observations

http://stevetilley.blogspot.com/2010/08/rev-some-observations.html

Wednesday, August 04, 2010. Rev - some observations. A review of the just-finished TV comedy series. Made it as far as the front page of the Guardian this week. One or two episodes of. Attracted more viewers than some instalments of Big Brother (do people still watch that? And certainly got people chatting. There is an excellent review on Bishop Alan's Blog. So I won't cover old ground, especially when I'd do it less well. First thing to note is that. Thirdly, and this would be what I would want a post-.

Steve Tilley's Blog: RIPBB

http://stevetilley.blogspot.com/2015/05/ripbb.html

Friday, May 15, 2015. Before I heard you play at all. Your face adorned my bedroom wall. A pull-out poster which came free. With Sounds, or was it NME? But then, with no appropriate shoes. I learnt the simple twelve bar blues. Your grimace looked down from afar. At bent notes on my air guitar. An anthem from the southern poor. Played on the step outside the door. You woke up every morning down. The dog had died; the girl skipped town. You proudly told the newsroom hoards. So U2's Bono, your new chum.

100 Happy Days – day 13 | bakingcraftingthinking

Just another WordPress.com site. Laquo; 100 Happy Days – day 12. 100 Happy Days – day 14. 100 Happy Days – day 13. On April 16, 2014. It’s a no-make-up selfie! I have no idea whether selfies are supposed to be allowed in the 100 happy days thing. Also, I virtually never wear make-up anyway. To the extent that I’m actually struggling to remember when I last did! Definitely at my sister’s wedding 18 months ago, and I think I’ve worn it since but can’t think what for. cold tea again: Coronation Street fans treated like the rest of us

http://cold-tea-again.blogspot.com/2007/03/coronation-street-fans-treated-like.html

Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Coronation Street fans treated like the rest of us. It's hard to believe but Coronation Street fans have been treated like the rest of humanity. They have been abused by a drunk. It is almost as shocking as the abuse poured out by Shatner on Star Trek nerds many moons ago. When will this fan abuse end. cold tea again: January 2006

http://cold-tea-again.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 31, 2006. There are some things in life. That you can rely on. For instance, the telephone ringing just as you've sat down with a nice cup of hot tea, or the golf (I mean what sort of a sport is that? I can also rely on every other Tuesday being the most miserable and boring day of the week. Why? I hear you collectively cry. Well, that is all day meeting day. Why must we have an all day meeting when my attention span is at best twenty minutes? Sunday, January 22, 2006. You tell it Steve.

Last night, we saw Red Road. On dvd. Today we went to Spiderman 3 at the cinema. Fair to say the two aren't that much alike. You don't want to see that with your mum and dad. A face to meet the faces.". Living life, spirituality and church, arts and culture. Monday, November 28, 2016. Knowing me, knowing you. Several close acquaintances and I have been getting into the Enneagram. It's not hard to find out about, using a respected introduction. The Enneagram is a personality profiling tool, comparable to Myers Briggs but more profound, nuanced, relational and spiritual (privileging no particular religion). But I'm finally ready to own it! I can only speak for myself, but in th...

A face to meet the faces.". Living life, spirituality and church, arts and culture. Friday, February 23, 2007. Lent - what's it all about? It's a funny time, Lent. I always find it meaningful and moving but I'm not sure why. Easter is my favourite time of year: that's partly due to increasing hours of daylight. (The best time to start a new job is very early Spring: you begin full of anticipation of approaching summer and have a long wait before autumn term darkness and stress kicks in). Is it just me, o...

A face to meet the faces.". Living life, spirituality and church, arts and culture. Wednesday, April 25, 2007. Me against the world! Many, many times I have explained to Jon that I am the slayer. He simply will not believe me. This may be because, mostly, I feel the need to hide my superhuman strength. Now, thanks to Steve. I think my case is watertight. http://www.annampotts.co.uk/2017/01/all-by-myself.html

A face to meet the faces.". Living life, spirituality and church, arts and culture. Monday, January 09, 2017. For Christmas, I got a book about being a hermit. Doubtless somebody is trying to tell me something. Hermits: caves; brown sackcloth; bad teeth and temper; crazy hair (yep, somebody is definitely trying to tell me something.) The public image isn't great. The word hermit refers to a person 'of the desert'; a hermit today is defined (at least, by Catholic practitioners) as a person who chooses.

For sure, later on, after each and every race, I would change all the cables and housing on my bike. It pretty much didn’t matter whether...Vincent...
