Archive for June, 2013 Monthly archive page. San Francisco Pacific Gas and Electric Company Nest 2013. On June 28, 2013. I approached this nest with permission of the US Fish and Wildlife Service one week after Summer Solstice for the purpose of collecting addled eggs for contaminent analysis. The photo above shows the status of the nest on June 28th 2013. Five eggs remained in the scrape. One intact egg lay beside the nest box. And a seventh egg was found broken on the ledge nearby. As Cher did, for the...

Archive for April, 2013 Monthly archive page. On April 11, 2013. Relaxing after this morning’s flight. He continued to the fencepost as the pigeon struggled to get its bearings. It was a “squeaker” or newly fledged pigeon. SFO stood on the post craning his neck around to watch the pigeon for about five seconds as it swung around in the stiff breeze and started to drift downwind. He correctly assessed it as a catchable bird and went after it with a vengeance. Was the red-tail standing on top of him?
Espie | stewartfalcon
https://stewartfalcon.wordpress.com/2014/07/07/espie
On July 7, 2014. Espie and her brother Hiko fledged from the San Jose City Hall nest in 2007–Clara’s founding year in her territory. Hiko settled at the Fruitvale Avenue Bridge territory and Espie, the East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Probably not good either. An industrial area to the south may offer them a perch. A short distance to the north is the speeding traffic of the new east span which is certainly lethal. And then there are the gulls. Observers may ride a bicycle or walk out t...

Archive for March, 2013 Monthly archive page. On March 29, 2013. It was foggy along the coast and at the first coastal bench where I usually use a pasture for exercising flights. I proceeded further up to the second coastal bench where I found sunshine. There are no fence posts at the higher meadow so I took out the car perch and set it on a little rise. HAYA: Rest in Peace. March 20, 2016. On the last day of winter before the Spring Equinox, I went back to Golden Gate Park to check in with the Great Horned Owl; a lone owlet is resting next to mom. A Black Phoebe was nearby hunting for bugs, and it posed for me on several branches. This is the best shot. Great Blue Heron in flight.

On July 6, 2015. We band birds with the glimmer of hope that someone, somewhere might see them again. But most banded birds never are. The many Peregrine Falcon observers in the San Francisco Bay Area increase my chances. Bands give me an opportunity to learn more about dispersal distance and direction, nest site tenacity, and, the longevity of Bay Area Peregrines. People like me who band Peregrines, are so grateful for people like Cleve who search for Peregrines and then report their whereabouts. Th...

STEWART FAMILY
Saturday, February 27, 2010. Ok so we have this file container that has been broken but somehow it still finds use. Like transfering the kids toys down to the playroom or transfering Maya from room to room. It is her favorite thing lately to be pushed in this container and also the perfect size. But if you stop she'll kindly ask "uh nen? No way high chair! Maya is getting so big and wanting to do everything we do including sitting in a regular chair at the table, not her high chair! Don't say the "S" word.
