We All Live Here: The Writer
http://greenpiecesforeveryone.blogspot.com/p/writer.html
We All Live Here. Science and Nature Demystified. Outside the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D. C. On a cross-country trip - my father and me at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado. Writing novels is the first and foremost passion in my life. But I am also a science writer whose primary education has been in the broad topics of ecology, evolutionary biology, and conservation. I attended Clark University. And I worked as a contractor to the USDA. In Anchorage, Alaska. Pictur...

FIELD OBS: December 2008
http://katshawfieldobs.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 29, 2008. I BRAKE for Gasterosteus aculeatus. My study species is Gasterosteus aculeatus -. Threespine sticklebacks have three dorsal spines (hence the name "threespine sticklebacks") PLUS many populations also have two pelvic spines. All of these spines can be held erect or collapsed down flat against the body and are utilized in antipredator defense and to signal aggression between individuals. More threespine facts, biology and musings to come. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

FIELD OBS: Prep for Field Season 2009
http://katshawfieldobs.blogspot.com/2009/05/prep-for-field-season-2009.html
Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Prep for Field Season 2009. It has been a long, crazy semester and now that the final grades have been entered and submitted, I can begin preparations for the fast-approaching field season. Why, I'll be jumping into lakes of data (quite literally)! What checklist do I power through first? Munsell Card (mini color checker). Bear Spray (just kidding :) . I hope). The checklist for stuff that takes a long time to arrive in the mail. My parents - you guys are the best! See some moose ...

FIELD OBS: Explanation of why we sometimes require a break...
http://katshawfieldobs.blogspot.com/2009/06/explanation-of-why-we-sometimes-require.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Explanation of why we sometimes require a break. After reading over my last post, I realized I haven't really given a description of what my field work entails so it would be silly for me to assume anyone would believe we found it necessary to take a break while doing research in Alaska. I guess I should explain myself. Eg osteological disorders) - and such studies are very interesting and complementary to field data unraveling evolutionary processes. Storrs, CT, United States.
