Stitch Loop: February 2014

http://stitchloop.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Siân Martin - work in progress. Tuesday, 4 February 2014. I was reminded of this drawing session I did with Audrey Walker recently when I was viewing your blog Jamila. I hope this will make a connection for you too. The lines initially came from a study of the edges of fabric scraps in the sketchbook pages below, in particular the study of the edge of the right hand piece of frayed linen. This line was drawn using a number of different media and grounds in this composite piece below. And finally the totem.

Stitching at a distant. Woensdag 26 mei 2010. Colour circle and mind map. The colour circle learned a great deal from this. Inspirations images of crosses. Images of crosses from magazines, things around the house, fabric,s. The more you see the more you find. Line Drawings and rubbings. This was much fun and lovely to do. Thursday, 12 September 2013. Devoré workshop with Dionne Swift. Our first sample was a positive and negative design onto velvet using a silk screen with a paper mask. I did some buildings and added a bit of rain with a Thermofax screen. Then we had a choice between making a scarf and trying other fabrics. My second sample used a piece of devoré satin and the design combines a masking tape mask with a different Thermofax. The best bit was washing the fabric, after ironing it, and revealing the design.

Threading on thin ice. Saving the world, one stitch at a time. We all move on the fringes of eternity and are sometimes granted vistas through the fabric of illusion." -Ansel Adams. Chapter 6: Use of Bonding. The store did not sell "Bondaweb", although I did find a bottle of glue that you spread on and then can iron, as well as the powder form of an iron-on glue. For the blue piece, I colored on the non-glue side of the fabric. 6-1 First bonding attempt (10x10cm). Then, using the red material in the back...
