First Things First – Uskglass | de minimis
https://stitchthisdarling.wordpress.com/2011/10/17/first-things-first-uskglass
First Things First – Uskglass. October 17, 2011. Posted by Fiona in Craftiness. Look what I did. This is one of the big things I missed out on telling you about in the last few months – in August, I published Uskglass. Do you remember the green sample hat. I christened ‘Strange’? It was originally designed around the book. Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. I’m a bit in love with slightly slouchy hats with a deep brim at the moment. There’s at least one more on the way. Watch this space. A Year In Books.

November 7, 2011. Posted by Fiona in Big things. I’ve just gone onto Wikipedia, and found out the plot of Salman Rusdie’s. Of course, I’ve heard of the book before – who hasn’t? It’s practically synonymous with Rushdie’s name, with controversy, with all kinds of things – for the last few months, there’s been an exhibition about banned books at the National Library of Scotland, and I’ve gone round at least three times since August. Was all over it, that and. Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Other things I have fo...

Oh, and I have an unholy love for a certain type of detective novel. (Could you tell? I have as yet not dared read anything by Ian Rankin because I know what happened when I discovered Minette Walters and it bore more than a few similarities to a stampede. Death du Jour – Kathy Reichs. Frost at Christmas – R D Wingfield. Nightwatch – Terry Pratchett (twice! The Mousetrap and Selected Plays – Agatha Christie. Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen. Well Schooled in Murder – Elizabeth George. I like all these🙂.

October 20, 2011. Posted by Fiona in Edinburgh. It’s hard work, this LLM business. The content is highly technical, and assumes a good deal of prior knowledge. For my politics module, International Relations Theory, I started off not understanding any of the technical language and having to sit down with a dictionary and try and work out what this means:. Oh, but it’s such good fun, though. In the last five weeks, I’ve dredged the depths of GCSE History (League of Nations, self-determinat...I feel signif...

December 2, 2011. Posted by Fiona in Breaking the fourth wall. 8230;That’s a comment on how wet it is up here, by the way. It’s been raining horizontally on and off for about a week. I was walking down to the library about ten past eight this morning. You know, when it’s got to the point where you’re just following your feet, and you’ve stopped noticing things around you? It was World AIDS day yesterday, which I assume accounts for it. 1 Lucy - December 2, 2011. Fiona - December 3, 2011. You are commenti...

Wherein remarks are made on parenting, art, books,. And vegan cooking, with frequent mention of knitting. Friday, September 23, 2011. Mittens for babies and. Toddlers are really fun to make because they turn out looking so charming and miniature, and are gratifyingly quick compared to, say, a sweater. Plus, unlike with adult-sized mittens, you don’. Wherein remarks are made on parenting, art, books,. And vegan cooking, with frequent mention of knitting. Tuesday, August 23, 2011. I hate to say goodbye to this summer. Although a Minnesota September can include a couple of warm, not completely un-summery weeks at its start, we all know the summer truly ends when the pool closes. Which, sadly, is three days from now.*. Now I’m contemplating, only slightly prematurely and neurotically, the cold weather that will eventually come. Last winter. Oh, Young Me...

Wherein remarks are made on parenting, art, books,. And vegan cooking, with frequent mention of knitting. Thursday, November 24, 2011. A gratitude that is never threadbare. I hope your holiday, Dear Reader, was filled, too, with tofu desserts and reluctant baby kisses! How to make a paper flower garland,. Plus birthday party recap. Of the paper ...

Wherein remarks are made on parenting, art, books,. And vegan cooking, with frequent mention of knitting. Sunday, July 31, 2011. Bee and I go to the pool most afternoons, she in a baby-sized swimsuit dotted with cherries and I in a perhaps overly-modest tankini-swimskirt thing more suitable for an older gal - but it's a step up from the maternity swimsuit I was safety-pinning to myself despite. I should have been more ostentatious, clearly.). By whom Bee is utterly transfixed. (She won't remember. All ov...

Stitch This, Freud! Sigmund Freud felt that women shouldn't do needlework because it encouraged them to think - well too bad for him! Sunday, 1 September 2013. Has this ever happened to you?
