Another successful year for the show. Exhibit numbers were down on last year. Didn't stop loads of afternoon visitors admiring the splendid displays. That time of the year again. of sleepless nights, loads of cars drawing up in front of the house, the neighbours thinking I'm into something illict, my wife thinking I've lost my marbles, and the same old questions. Will we get enough exhibits to make this year a decent show? And if we get lots more exhibits how on earth will we fit them all in the hall we've hired at the Corn Exchange? Well, we did it! Rumours that one of the judges did their back in lifting a slice are completely unfounded (see judge’s comment in photo below). Several entries from the grandchildren in the chocolate crispies and decorated plant pot classes. Connor won second place for his plant pot, Izzy third place. And Barry was second in the home brewed dry white wine class. And what about my own efforts? Were the apples not colourful enough? In the end I entered five classes and got an award in all of them!

Yet another bumper year for the show, with a record 617 exhibits and hundreds of visitors flooding into the Corn Exchange in the afternoon. What an amazing heritage our Flower and Produce Show has! In the year General George Custer was getting wiped out at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, and the first ever telephone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell, 1876 was the year of the first St Ives Flower Show. More recently the show had stopped in 1995, but after a fifteen year gap a bunch of eager volunteers staged a revival in 2010. This much loved community event has gone on growing ever since.
