I've been reading some of our new purchases, and have found that two of them mesh well together. "A Winter's Day in 1939" by Melinda Szymanik is set in World War II in Poland, where 12 year old Adam and his family are uprooted and moved to Russia to work in a labour camp. The book is a 2014 NZ Post Book Awards finalist. Other St Mary's Blogs.

Library at St Mary's. The blog of St Mary's School Library - Te Waka Matauranga O Hato Maria - Hastings, New Zealand. Thursday, 24 July 2014. Getting rid of books! When I was a young child, I used to spend pocket money on chocolate (yes, a weakness all my life! Or discarded library books from the Public Library. I've been doing a cull of books in our library lately. Students may notice the fiction section in particular seems "tidier" and that some of the shelves have been rearranged. Getting rid of books!

This really clear explanation. From Lucy Kinder, writing in The Telegraph (UK) explains it nice and succinctly. We have some students who are very into Minecraft, and so have, using our Scholastic commission, acquired three books - Minecraft for Beginners, the construction handbook, and the combat handbook. Tuesday, 29 November 2016. Sometimes we do things just because we can! Mrs Shaw had brought some sacks to school and yesterday she asked us if we would like to have them for sack races. So in the afternoon we had a great time having sack races in 'dog biscuits' bags and 'chicken food' bags - they are very strong plastic sacks. Mrs Shaw has also promised she will keep saving the bags for us so that we can have races on other occasions! It was really good fun! 7 December 2016 at 15:30. Welcome to Room 12.
