Beta Explorer: Steady state
http://stnicolai.blogspot.com/2010/10/steady-state.html
Thoughts about relativistic quantum mechanics. The first thing I encourage you to do is to read this fantastic article on science20.com by Johannes Koelman:. Marking the grand arena of physical reality. The diagram to the right, from this article, shows the boundaries that define the domain in which we can make observations about physical laws. The first thing that popped into my mind when I read the article myself was that I had seen that number before:. The gravitational constant and speed of light are...
Beta Explorer: Taking things for granted
http://stnicolai.blogspot.com/2010/09/taking-things-for-granted.html
Thoughts about relativistic quantum mechanics. Taking things for granted. When I was in high school I first tried to understand the concepts of special relativity, because it seemed such a strange idea that nothing can move faster than light. Even after learning that Einstein basically derived the theory from the principle that everyone, no matter their speed, experiences the same laws of nature, and therefore the same speed of light, I couldn't just accept what was now an almost trivial conclusion.

Thoughts about relativistic quantum mechanics. It took me three posts to realize that I was talking about all kinds of physical concepts without providing pointers to websites that give more information about them. Not particularly helpful really. I would like to make it up, by giving the following list of Wiki pages:. The Emperor's New Mind. The Big Bang theory. Some interesting articles can be found at:. This online book is priceless:. Marking the grand arena of physical reality. Thing to happen, simil...
Beta Explorer: Why another blog?
http://stnicolai.blogspot.com/2010/09/why.html
Thoughts about relativistic quantum mechanics. I would like to recommend the book that made me first realize just how incompatible those two theories are: 'The Emperor's Mind' by Roger Penrose. It tantalizingly gives a few of those ideas that demonstrate rather painfully how incomplete physics actually is. So what are our candidate ideas exactly? What mysteries are still left unsolved? What clues did history leave behind for us? It's time for a journey. September 26, 2010 at 4:40 PM.

Jason's Ramblings: Moo
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2012/11/moo.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Sunday, November 4, 2012. So I've cooked pasta. Today, for the first time, I attempted to cook beef - a steak to be exact. I've always been afraid to cook beef because pan-frying steak can be difficult and steak purists would thumb their noses at such sacrilege. Nevertheless, I wanted to try it if only to say I have. In any case, at MYR 15 for two (admittedly small) steaks, it seemed a bargain compared to the salmon I usually buy. Is there such a thing as too many mushrooms?
Jason's Ramblings: January 2014
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Seasons Greetings 2013; Happy New Year 2014. Hrmmm I've really been neglecting this blog. Laziness is a powerful force! Anyway, since 2014 has reared its hopeful head, here's the first blog post of the year :). As per usual at Christmas, I took leave to go to my parents' place in Penang. The calendar helpfully placed Christmas on a Wednesday so I took the whole week off (yay). Christmas time is also my eldest sister's birthday so we had some good foods.
Jason's Ramblings: September 2013
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Monday, September 2, 2013. It all started when my boss suggested over lunch that we have a barbecue party. Living in a condominium, I had access to a barbecue pit and much to my chagrin, I was to be the host of this little get-together. I scoffed, and assumed it to be a joke. Eventually, the founder of the feast himself elected not to attend. But the idea refused to die. Once everyone arrived, the party began. The cook prepared a nice selection of meat (mostly pork):. Despite ini...
Jason's Ramblings: Moving forward
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2012/10/moving-forward.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Five weeks ago today, I bade a fond farewell. It's so cool that I have this car now and I love it to bits. No more violent vibrations when idling in gear with the air-conditioner on. No more strange creaks. No more shuddering at high(ish) speeds. It's nice to be moving forward as the tagline says :). Also my new car is so pretty! Posted by Jason C. October 8, 2012 at 11:13 PM. Congratulations on the new car! The Toyota Vios surely is a wonderful ride!
Jason's Ramblings: March 2013
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Monday, March 18, 2013. After the success of last week's pasta sauce. I decided to make another dish that I've been wanting to do but never got round to: baked herbed potatoes :). Based on this recipe. Posted by Jason C. Sunday, March 10, 2013. I will have the penne al'arrabbiata. Ever since I saw this video. I basically got the gist of it and just winged it. Here are the ingredients:. Now, arrabbiata sauce doesn't actually have mushrooms in it, but I like mushrooms, so I put som...
Jason's Ramblings: RIP Roger Ebert
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2013/04/rip-roger-ebert.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Friday, April 5, 2013. I was saddened this morning to learn of the passing of Roger Ebert. As one who loves movies and one who used to write the occasional (amateurish) review, I greatly admired his writing style and insights even when I did not necessarily agree with him. When not writing about movies, his essays and wit were still master-classes in writing. Heck, he even got a Pullitzer prize. His last blog post. And the words of his wife. Rest in peace, Mr. Ebert. Five weeks a...

Jason's Ramblings: May 2013
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Sunday, May 26, 2013. Today, I attempted to make mushroom soup from scratch. and succeeded! I've been meaning to try home-made mushroom soup for some time and after getting a recipe. From a friend of mine, I gave it a try. I used Swiss button mushrooms (brown and white), one portobello mushroom, and some oyster mushrooms. Being blender-deprived, I chopped up the Swiss and portobello mushrooms as fine as I could instead of slicing them and shredded the oyster mushrooms. Birds Of B...
Jason's Ramblings: True Colours
http://jason28841.blogspot.com/2012/12/true-colours.html
Food, movies, and stuff. Sunday, December 2, 2012. Last year, for my company annual dinner, I got up the nerve to go in costume as a zombie. To the surprise of many, including myself. This year, I didn't go in costume, but at the behest of my boss, I did something that arguably took even more nerve - I took part in a singing performance. Our performance went just the way we wanted. The music was good, the singing was good, and I think the slides even synced up most of the time. When it came to my...And t...

Waar klein groots is.
