Dry stone walling - J.W.Stringer

A variety of walls were built using reclaimed random walling stone. A large retaining wall built on a curve plus two parallel walls enclosing a flight of stone steps. Two dry stone pillars were formed at the base of the steps. This was a gap filling job on part of a 6 foot high boundary wall that had fell down due to high winds. Construction of stone pillars around steel RSJ. Side wall returns and finished project.

Working at St John's church in Bollington, we were asked to enlarge the columbarium. By knocking down an existing wall we were able to construct a new wall using the reclaimed original stone. The walls were built with diminishing courses and lime mortar. We constructed another wall perpendicular to the last one, with an 18" buttress at each end to give the stone panel extra strength.

Using reclaimed coarsed stone we built an entrance wall in a dry stone style with a mortar infill. We re-positioned the stone lintel above the bridge and rebuilt the left hand side column supporting the lintel. Then continued the wall over the bridge to a dry stone pillar. We built another smaller pillar to act as a gatepost for the adjacent driveway, and connected it to the new wall. Putting solid stone pier caps on the pillars. The wall was finished off with an 18" wide sawn flat stone coping.

The building of a dry stone retaining wall around a new patio area including three steps built on an internal curve. Dry stone wall built using reclaimed Kerridge stone. Steps made from calibrated 2" Indian stone flags. Patio flagged with Indian stone paving. Indian stone flags laid on edge up the side of the drive to retain banking side. Use of reclaimed granite setts in two rows to form a border around perimeter of new driveway. Formation of dry stone retaining wall and steps.
