The church is roofed with Stonesfield slates, a roofing slate mined in the village and used for many of the buildings in Oxfordshire. The tower was heightened in the 15th century and is still a prominent landmark. It contains a ring of six bells. The North Chapel or Lady Chapel. The carved oak pulpit is dated 1629.

The Chapel, opened in 1867, provides a beautiful place of worship for a congregation meeting formerly in houses or camp meetings. Worship takes place Sundays at 11.00. St James the Great. The 13th Century church of St James the Great stands at the centre of Stonesfield, its bell tower clearly visable above the surrounding buildings.
