My experience as an assistant teacher on the JET Program in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Whoo hoo, its winter break! Two and a half weeks of freedom… sort of. The students are on break so I don’t have to school, but I still have to go to the Board of Education office every day. Stories from Shimane: The Human Cost

http://www.storiesfromshimaneken.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-human-cost.html

My experience as an assistant teacher on the JET Program in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Friday, December 14, 2012. I won't pretend to know much about guns or gun control, but I do know that the prevalence of guns in America and ease with which people can acquire them is surely in part to blame for these horrific tragedies. I read this article "The Human Cost of the Second Amendment". Several months ago and it has stuck with me since then. Really good one about gun control in Japan as well. I am a recent c...

My experience as an assistant teacher on the JET Program in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Sunday, November 4, 2012. On one of my first weekends in Yasugi, the other ALTs and I took a trip to a beach in Matsue. I was really excited because I hadn’t gotten a chance to see the ocean yet, as it’s not exactly close in Yasugi. The beach we went to was quite crowded with families, but the water was clear and the sand was nice. Finally, the birds! There is long road through Yasugi called “Swan Road” bec...I am a re...

Stories from Shimane: August 2012

http://www.storiesfromshimaneken.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

My experience as an assistant teacher on the JET Program in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Sunday, August 12, 2012. I don't have Internet yet in my apartment so I'm typing this from my iPhone. Just wanted to quickly say that I love my new home! The view from my apartment balcony. I love that rice field! Mt Daisen, the tallest mountain in the area. The delicious breakfast my sweet grandma made for me when I went to Osaka to buy my car. A view of the mountains on the drive back to Shimane.

A Touch of Sun in Every Taste. The Memories of a Denver JET. This also makes me wonder about the socializing process in Japanese versus in English. The people I’ve met here in Japan and become friendly with, I wonder if I would have ever considered becoming friends with them if they spoke my native language back in the States. Would I have shoved them in a theoretical box and thus declared them to be a certain kind of person without actually getting to know them? It was filed under JET Program. Notify me...

A Touch of Sun in Every Taste. The Memories of a Denver JET. I was admonished by one of my JTEs because she believed the way I reprimanded a child was inappropriate. Instead of calling him out in front of the class, I should have spoke to him outside of class. Which of the Japanese boys is he so that I can do that? Life and Children | A Touch of Sun in Every Taste

https://atouchofsunkist.wordpress.com/2013/08/02/life-and-children

A Touch of Sun in Every Taste. The Memories of a Denver JET. Maybe I’m trying to be too serious lately. Whenever I think to write a blog post, I always want to make deep, insightful, and thoughtful. I take extra time to consider what I’m going to write, and then I just forget my train of thought, and don’t bother with making the post at all. So, let me switch tracks here. My pride was kinda shot, so I joined a tennis school last week. I WILL IMPROVE, DAMN IT. Thanks to these two kids, I’m pushing m...

Stories from Second Grade

Sunday, September 27, 2009. In all honesty, when I think back upon my previous educational experiences, going through the activities contained within this blog have been some of my very favorite. Nearly all of them were new to me, and I truly enjoyed being able to creatively express the concepts I learned in completing them. One of my favorite exercises was using Wordle. Website. My second graders would also have a great time using this website to creatively display various images. Without having to actu...

It documents the stories of those who were bereaved or injured during the ‘Troubles’. Many of these stories were simply known up to now amongst family and friends but were seldom heard in wider society. It is a privilege, and very moving, to hear the voices of those bereaved or hurt telling their own stories.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010. There's a horrible commercial that gets played a lot here encouraging tourism in Malaysia. It has a bunch of shots of jungles and plates of food, and then for some reason a random white lady doing yoga on a beach. And there's a song in the background with the tagline "Malaaaaaysia.truly Aaaaaaasia! But eventually we got on a boat, and about an hour later we arrived in Pengerang, which is a small post in the southeast state of Johor. I fell asleep on Mike during the ride back...

Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Alighting with a Brunswick part 4. Edward awoke to a heart wrenching noise. *BOOOM*". He wailed in his mind. When Edward had first met the pheonix, he did as much study as he could about them. He then learned that when the pheonix is young it lays 10 eggs, but only one of them has a baby pheonix in it. When a pheonix is minutes before death,. They egnite their eggs , this is the way the eggs hatches and the bird gets the magical powers. I hope that was enough! I hope you don't ma...
