Stories of a House

Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Weathered Turquoise Chest of Drawers. I thought I'd share another furniture makeover with you all. It turned out super cute, but I only have one picture that even depicts the color somewhat accurately :(. I found this antique in pretty rough shape. I wasn't sure if I could even refinish the top because there was what seemed to be a hole that had been drilled into it and lots of loose wood fibers that had to be cleaned out:. Hmmm, not very stainable, right? Oh, the unjustice! But s...

Sunday, November 28, 2010. Project Diaries Volume 10. Thank you all for linking up your projects last week! Although Thanksgiving kept us all busy, there were a couple of entries I must brag about:. Transformed this gorgeous buffet and hutch. Isn't it stunning? Sue at Uniquely Chic. Turned this antique into a beachy blue dresser. I love it! Okay, your turn! Please remember these oh so simple guidelines. Be a follower and/or subscriber to Stories of a House. Add the Project Diaries. Sorry, P-dub.). But th...

Monday, February 28, 2011. The Story Behind Stories of a House. Unless you are viewing. The other day I was thinking. About how 9 months ago I had no idea what to expect when I started blogging. There is a lot of time to think, dream, reflect, plan, etc. when working on furniture. I didn't expect anything from blogging other than to post some before and afters, share paint colors, and have a little memory for my kids to look at one day. First I need to say. 8 months prior to writing my first post,. This ...

Stories of a House: June 2011

http://www.storiesofahouse.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 30, 2011. It's been a while since I've posted anything. The heat makes it hard to spend a lot of time in the garage, even with a swamp cooler. But, I managed to finish this cute little antique dresser, probably from the 1940's. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on the decade. I listed it last night and already have someone coming today to hopefully bring it home to their daughter. The top was stripped and stained in dark walnut. Then I repaired and filled missing and lifting veneer.

Friday, July 30, 2010. I know you dont read my blog to hear about boring medical conditions. It's been a little slow-going around here with furniture projects, as I've been in and out of doctors offices for the past month. As a nurse, I can't not. Mention this if it helps even one person. My symptoms were the ones they heard day in and day out. The same tests were run over and over and over. Insanity. The only possibility they could come up with was hypothyroidism and anemia. Stories of a House: It's a Good Tired...

http://www.storiesofahouse.blogspot.com/2011/05/it-good-tired.html

Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Its a Good Tired. It's been a rewarding 2 days at Mike and Keeley's. Working on two different pieces from start to finish for our ebook. Aside from being two really neat people who are so easy to be with, here's what else I learned about them:. Keeley makes killer salads. I think I said, "this is the best salad I've ever had," more than twice, two days in a row which was quite unladylike, but I was so hungry and it was seriously SO good. Anyway, on day one this:. Oh, I envy you!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. How to Thrift Part 2. There are a lot of jeans here so you really have to look, I like darker wash so I don't waste my time looking through each pair of 1980's acid wash with the worlds highest waist. Look for "rise" the size of the zipper gives it away. A 8 inch zipper is trouble. Two words: Mom Jeans. Run for your life! You have to develop your "thrift vision" or you will be lost here. No one wants to be choked by a sweater all season! Nope, still blurry, you get the point.

Projects Plenty: Metallic Glazed Sideboard

http://projectsplenty.blogspot.com/2010/07/metallic-glazed-sideboard.html

Friday, July 16, 2010. I cleaned, sanded, primed and painted it (SW Antique Linen). Here are pics showing the primed piece. And Antique Linen on the architecture against the white primer. I decided that a metallic taupe color glaze would look nice. I applied the glaze with a brush on/wipe-off technique using a 2 inch chip brush and cheesecloth. The chip brush is a great tool for getting glaze into tiny crevices. Here is a close up of the curved feet. UPDATE: September 27, 2010. Lori @ Projects Plenty.

Stories Of A Happy Mom. About this "Happy Mom". Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Even though I'm a little late with this post, I feel like I should write it just to keep up with my blog's tradition! So, last week my girls turned 6 and 8 years old; even though time flies and I feel like they just grow up too fast, I no longer get sad about it because I know they are happy, healthy and thriving and just by seeing their personalities develop, I know I must be doing *something* right! The best "whisper" is a "click". July 16, 2013. Struggling a bit today. Going to have to figure out a way to make some changes easier for two of my horses. I'm having to separate my herd onto two different parcels for a few months and that will put them into different configurations than what they're used to. Once again, they cannot be in the same paddock because the gelding has just too many stallion like behaviors and is too rough with the little mare, still she is quite attached to him. July 15, 2013.

Stories of Alberian

Bull; Table of Contents. The Thistle Dancer III. Please read from the beginning. I reached my open hand before the horse. It snorted, as if to declare independence from the human-folk. The beast was fitted with a fine bridle and saddle. The leather shone, as did its well groomed chestnut coat. I waited and stared with patience until my arm got tired. It stared back at me with curious mistrust. Unsurprising behavior for an animal only recently introduced to a new planetary world. It stepped towards me.
