Sometimes It Is Lupus: Having "That" Talk
http://www.sometimesitislupus.com/2015/05/having-that-talk.html
Monday, 25 May 2015. Have you had "that" talk with your family? I don't mean the one about where babies come from. I mean the other one. The one that people with chronic illnesses are forced to think about, but sometimes try to avoid talking about. It's national Palliative Care Week. Which is as good a reason as any to have the talk with your family and loved ones. One of the things I noticed in hospital chaplaincy is that there is a lot of guilt around death, that just doesn't need to be there. Do you w...
Sometimes It Is Lupus: April 2015
http://www.sometimesitislupus.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, 25 April 2015. Not All In My Head. So a while back, I posted about the imaging that found I had a decreased blood flow to my left temporal lobe. My GP hadn't seen anything like it, and didn't know if it could explain my cognitive issues. Since then, I've been to the specialist who ordered the tests. The specialist is a gerontologist - a specialist in diseases of ageing. What she'd been looking for was signs of dementia. There weren't any. (Big sigh of relief.). Lupus makes the abnormal normal.
Sometimes It Is Lupus: March 2015
http://www.sometimesitislupus.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Fog Fatigue Movie Review. Two brothers, the pregnant wife of one brother, and the other brother's dog go hunting, declaring alcohol and firearms a family tradition. (You know at this point these people are going to die.). The forest is closed, but being very naughty people (who are probably going to die), they go in anyway. The camera pauses ominously at a pile of shoes in the slide as they go through a disused playground. Pretty dumb, and not much of it. I couldn't have heard...
Sometimes It Is Lupus: Warriors' Wall
http://www.sometimesitislupus.com/p/warriors-wall.html
Lupus has completely ruined my life. I'm sick and in pain everyday. I've been on IV chemotherapy for 3 straight years now. I've lost my entire family due to their mindset of 'But you don't look sick.' I'm basically just waiting to die. This disease is a monster.". Being undiagnosed for 25 years cost me so much I can't even start to think about it. I mean, what CAN you say to someone who knows they are dying? I'm still here because I want a cure. need a cure. DEMAND a cure. Lupus is just a disease, don't ...
Worship Services: August 2012
http://worship-services.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 August 2012. Newsletter Reflection for Sunday 2nd September 2012: Giving Thanks. Have you ever stopped to think about the amazing gifts God has given to our congregation? Without even thinking about all the different things our church members do during the week (and there are lots), today, let’s think about the gifts of people involved in simply our Sunday morning worship and fellowship time. Or that God gave us elders to serve communion, and offer pastoral care? Links to this post. I was re...
Worship Services: September 2012
http://worship-services.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, 27 September 2012. Newsletter Reflection for Sunday 30th September 2012: Be Still. I wonder if you are able to consciously take time out to just be still, and to listen for God. I’m thinking of Psalm 46:10, but also thinking of the hectic lives people lead in our busy world. We seem to spend our lives constantly busy, at least mentally if not physically. For most people, to have a quiet moment in the day requires intentionally making space for that time, to plan for it and make it a priority...
Worship Services: February 2012
http://worship-services.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 25 February 2012. Service for Sunday 26th February, 2012. Year B, Lent 1. Call to worship Psalm 25:1-10, from Uniting in Worship. Hymn Together in Song 684 Love will be our Lenten calling. Prayers of Adoration and Confession. God of rainbows –. We thank you for the gift of the rainbow. It is the sign of your forgiveness. In the colours you paint across the sky you remind us that you are our God – and you want only good things for us. God of the flood –. It is not that we lack the intent to be y...
Worship Services: Reflection: Christmas Condescension
http://worship-services.blogspot.com/2012/12/reflection-christmas-condescension.html
Wednesday, 5 December 2012. A while ago, I had a conversation with a friend who could not understand how I could accept that the theory of evolution was probably right, and still maintain my faith. My point had been that human beings can't limit God - who are we to say whether or not God might choose to work through evolution or any other means? My friend's concern was that we are made in the image of God - if we evolved from pond scum, how can pond scum be the image of God? This year, when we celebrate,...
Worship Services: The Earth Belongs to God
http://worship-services.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-earth-belongs-to-god.html
Saturday, 28 September 2013. The Earth Belongs to God. During the week you might have heard in the news that the United Nations Climate Change Panel is now 95% certain that climate change is caused by humans (up from 90% in its previous report.). For those who are able, switching to solar power and cars that use less fossil fuels are also ways to help protect this planet. It's a matter of using what we need, without waste: being thankful for, and respectful of, what God has provided. Grace and peace,.
Worship Services: Reflection: Asylum Seekers
http://worship-services.blogspot.com/2013/09/asylum-seekers.html
Friday, 13 September 2013. Jesus himself comes to us in the form of the person in need. In our time in history, asylum seekers, displaced persons who have to flee their homes, and leave behind everything to try to find a safe place to live, are surely an excellent example of the person in need. When we live in one of the most affluent countries in the world, with one of the best economies, it is clear that these people who have lost everything really are “the least of these”. Grace and peace,. Patchwork ...

Stories on the Inside
Stories on the Inside. An occasional blog about gaming. By which I mean pen and paper RPG gaming, mostly. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. What I'm about to say is completely unscientific, and if there has ever been any published or private research on this topic, I'd love to get it. I was thinking this morning about demographics, specifically the demographics of people in our hobby, by which I mean pen and paper RPGs. But, it's rare. At least that's my impression. There have been some trends that I applaud...
